Is it a sign..?

I know I been talking a lot about my dreams lately.. but my dreams are freaky! Seriously!! I dreamt last night or morning or whatever time it was about people I have not talked to in such a long time. A girl I knew.. and she was welcoming me blah blah, to her home. In my dream I tried to fake it and tried to not pretend I didn’t care about her or want to be sitting with her.. anyways… I cannot remember too many of the little details.. but all I remember is that I didn’t want to be there.. I just didn’t like her anymore and didn’t want to be around her, but she kept dragging me. It is so weird really… I donno.. Maybe like I said yesterday I am loosing my mind. I keep thinking too much during the day, so when I sleep I dream of such weird dreams.. oh well!

Anyways.. about my day.. hmm.. I didn’t do much today.. you know .. the typical day of going to work, coming back from work. blah blah.. I just made my self some authentic arabian yellowish coffee.. It’s yummy and it kind of drugs me up.. lol Maybe I am getting addicted to the strong flavour and caffination.. but everyone should try it.. It is served usually in these pots.. and cups..

Speaking of weird dreams: I once dreamed that I was taking a physics final, I show up to the final late, know nothing on the exam, and proceed (of course!) to fail. I woke up thinking this really happened, and I cannot begin to tell you of my panic!!! Oh my God, I had to go and get my transcript to make sure I didn’t really fail. This was two years after I graduated!!!

The ability to interpret dreams was a sign of prophethood that Nabi Yusuf had, so it is not as easy as using a dictionary. Ibn Sirin is still, after probably ~1200 years, the most renowned Muslim theologian that interpreted dreams, yet I read that he used to ask many questions and try to understand a person and his circumstances before he would interpret a dream, and sometimes used to tell the person to come back later until he thought of an answer. He only apparently answered a fraction of the dreams that people used to ask him about. There is a book that you can easily buy with a collection of dream interpretations by him, the book itself I do not think was collected by him personally and I do not know how authentic it is. Besides, meanings of things change according to time, person, circumstances, so this book would only really give you an idea of what you need to consider when interpreting a dream.

I think I remember correct that this book classifies dreams broadly into three types: 1) a truthful dream in which you have seen past your physical confines 2) a dream which is just a disturbing distortion but not true, e.g. after someone has a bad meal or had a bad day 3) something your mind has been busy with during the day and it continues working on while you sleep. A dream may have elements of the three :) so you need to know how to distinguish and untagle before you can start thinking of what it might mean. Also you have to know your own dream patterns: some people might dream of things weeks ahead of time, some might dream of things just before they happen, etc. I don’t want to, and can’t, write an essay about this but you get the idea.

    Salam,
    Mohammad.

Hello Mohammad.. thanks for that long response.. it’s quite educational.. I know muslim scholars are famous for dream interpretations. My mom has a book actually that has Quranic references to some dreams. It’s quite amazing. Anyways.. thanks again.. and write an essay.. I don’t mind. Your not only educating me, but others too who read this blog! :)
