They have the answers…

I just came on the computer now and opened up yahoo.com to see this.. Yahoo! Answers .. I just browsed through some of the questions and I saw this question that struck me right away.. A girl’s question here.. ..

islam and poetry?

muhommed told muslims that music and poetry is made haram( unclean) by allah.islam is against architecture too. all the mosques are built after indian and persian designs. how come some muslims love music? what about abu nuwas poetry about naked muslim women and boys and wine/ why do muslim countries ban poetry written by kalil gibron, omar kayam, rumi and hafiz? these poets are secular and very humorous. why ban their works?

I didn’t understand where she got her information from.. since when is poetry a sin in Islam? And those authors she mentioned are very popular and everyone knows them.. so I am a bit confused.. I didn’t bother answering her because I didn’t know where she got her info from.. but seriously.. this Yahoo! Answers new site.. Why have people ask questions.. who is really answering them.. who is watching those answers and why? hmm.. I don’t trust this new Answers idea.. Seems a bit odd and not safe..

The internet is not safe at all, specially when It comes to religions! I’ve put a link to your post on the Peace Root blog
    http://peaceroot.blogspot.com

    I hope It’s ok with you :)

She got it from misinterpretation of the Quran where poets were somewhat condemned, but the poets refered to are those that used their talent to attack the religion.

The Quran, the Hadith and Sunnah all distinguish between the good and bad poetry. It’s not haram, it falls in the category of things like music and literature and all other artforms which can be used for good or bad.

So yeah, you’re right. The Answers thing is not the greatest learning device when it comes to things like religion.

I have to agree with you on this so called answers idea. If I want to find out more I try and go to someone who knows the correct answers if I have any questions. For example when it comes to Islam I will talk to people from Syria and Jordan. Bloggers that I have a lot of respect for. Not just anyone. You are invited to visit my blog and if anything I have is inaccurate please let me know. I sure don’t want to post anything that is not the truth.

This is why it is a good idea to always cite your sources, or at least cite the origin… so even if you get missleading info. from Yahoo, at least you aren’t the originator of the content if it’s proven to be fraudulant.
