Linux Mayham!!
Well.. I didn’t write anything yesterday cuz I was too busy reinstalling windows and fedora core 5 on my pc.. and I just got carried away and I kept screwing up fedora.. I want to so badly install XGL.. and have cool graphics and craziness with my linux.. but I got radeon 9550 and it is not working with ATI drivers!!.. so I had to reinstall cuz I screwed the the graphical interface.. then I have other problems.. I try to use gaim.. I log into to my msn.. and bam it crashes.. I tried to install amsn.. but it won’t let me login because it keeps asking for TLS libraries.. and it is already installed.. so I gave up on that too.. so I just don’t use messenger when I am under linux.. and that’s fine.. no need to chat.. I can just use google chat through the email.. haha..
anyways.. if anyone can help me with my Fedora Core 5 problems I would really appreciate it.. please!!

i got amsn working.. that’s good enough for now!!

It means you should answer the questions of “Ha Ana Za” on your blog..
ummm
I installed RedHat 9 and did some C++ assignments for the Operating system. It was like 9 months ago, ana since then, I didn’t use linux. I still can’t connect to the internet from Linux, it keeps telling me that eth0 is not defined…
waj3et raas hal Linux
why u still using red had 9? holy.. man.. there is fedora 5 now.. that is 5 versions ahead.. (fedora is supported by redhat).. that’s why ur having ethernet issues..
Mona,
Great start with Linux. The worst thing about X11 (X-Window) is that driver support for video cards is scanty. I don’t know what kind of support X has for ATI cards because quite frankly I don’t use ATI cards on my linux boxes. Most of the nvidia drivers are fairly stable.
Keep in mind Fedora has a lot of experimental code. If you want a more stable Linux distro (short for distrobution) check out Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com/). These guys have the best distro going for desktop linux.
When you do install Ubuntu (or any other Linux distro for that matter) you want to be careful because as much as I hate to say this most of the distro’s out there aren’t really secured. I guess you should be ok if you’re behind a NAT/firewall router.
Anyhow – if you need any help feel free to email me – I won’t post my email here for spam protection but I think you have it since it’s required for me to post this message.

hi youssuf.. thanks for the tips.. I only use fedora for desktop and coding.. and it is behind a router and non of the ports are forwarded to it.. so no one can see it!
and i have used ubuntu.. i like it..but i am used to rpms and stuff under fedora.. also at work we use Gentoo.. which is way more advanced with custom compilations.. so i donno.. i will stick with what I have now because I have customized it for my liking!!
RPM’s? Yuck i hate rpm’s. i almost always build & compile from source. And gentoo is amazing, love their ports system. I didn’t realize you had some experience with Ubuntu.
Anyhow I’m on a mac now I loooooooove mac it’s what Desktop Linux has dreamt of becoming
