The person sitting across from me

By: Mona
.......................

This morning I decided to be a bit patriotic and wore my Palestine map necklace.  (Yah, just like a typical Palestinian!) Anyways, so I got on the bus this morning. I usually don’t look at people unless something really grabs my attention. So as I was listening to the radio and hearing the beats of Genuine and Belly’s “Pressure“, I looked up and looked at this girl with dyed short blond hair. It was a really nice haircut and seriously suited her facial features. Then I looked and saw her necklace. I had sunglasses on so I doubt anyone can see my eye movements that much. The necklace grabbed my attention. She was wearing a Jewish Star. (David’s Star). I looked at her and thought, if she didn’t wear that there was no way on earth I would even think she was Jewish.

And here I was sitting across from her with a very distinct and visible Palestinian map necklace and her with a David’s star necklace and thought to my self, “do I care she is Jewish, and does she care that I am Palestinian?” I am just sitting here on my way to work and she seemed to be on her way to school. It was just two humans sitting across from each other. That’s all. I didn’t want to kill her and she didn’t want to do the same to me. But just like I am patriotic about what I believe in, she was the same. I then thought, “who gives a shit about these things here in Canada”. We all live together in peace and we have to forget our differences and just live our lives.

You know something my professor is a Jew who is very pro-Israeli. He is always sending me anti-Islamic propoganda in e-mail which I just usually ignore. But the for the most part he has excepted me as his graduate student. He has invited me to his house with his family to watch football games and has taken me out to eat a few times. He is also helping me find a good a job when I graduate. I really like the guy as a person and he is a really good professor too. I just disagree with him on that one issue.

At my last job, my boss was Jewish and a Zionist. I am as pro-Palestinian and political as you can get, but as long as politics weren’t a factor in our business relationship, I was fine with her. She was great, she loved me off. There was no need to bring politics into office, that’s not where political discussion belong, her and I wouldn’t have been able to resolve the Middle East Conflict anyway. And as long as we didn’t force our ideologies onto each other, it was fine.

But sometimes, it’s hard knowing that the person sitting across from you subscribes to politics that want to deprive you of your basic rights….

Queenie – you are right.. the best way to deal with work is not to talk politics.. especially when there are enough people in the world fighting and arguing about it already. If you start talking politics then u will start hating going to work.

Qwaider – yah.. u should write more about personal experiences in your blog..

Summer – thanks for liking my news area.. and yah.. people are people and just want to live life normally..

“People are people, so why should it be
You and I should get along so awfully
People are people, so why should it be
You and I should get along so awfully

So we’re different colors, and we’re different creeds
And different people have different needs
It’s obvious you hate me, though I’ve done nothing wrong
I’ve never even met you, so what could I have done?

    I can’t understand
    What makes a man
    Hate another man
    Help me understand

People are people, so why should it be
You and I should get along so awfully
People are people, so why should it be
You and I should get along so awfully

    Help me understand
    Help me understand
    Help me understand

Now you’re punching, and you’re kicking, and you’re shouting at me
I’m relying on your common decency
So far it hasn’t surfaced, but I’m sure it exists
It just takes a while to travel from your head to your fist

    I can’t understand
    What makes a man
    Hate another man
    Help me understand

People are people, so why should it be
You and I should get along so awfully

Sorry for the previous comment that was so long. It reminded me of that song.

It’s like, what if the shoe was on the other foot. You, Mona, and that Girl, both were not directly responsible for today’s situation. You are just, on the side, that life has brought you to.

Both people aren’t wrong or right, good or evil, persue, it’s just the situation. That being said, i’m 100% conflicted on the Palestinian/Israeli conflict.

I think 10,000 years could pass, and we could still be at the same point we are now.

I do like a two state idea, with Palestinian’s getting the proper lands. Jerusalem should be a neutral area, the entire lands of Jerusalem, even the settled land currently held by Jews, and be open to the world and to all.

Is it realistic? is any other reality of the situation realistic?

Why should my opinion or thoughts, mean a thing on this situation? lol. I’m just an American, I really have no busy, other then the fact, I believe people should live in a no opressive gov.
