Tatataaa… Meet the new rebellious member!
Today was fun.. sort of.. I will go back to the past 2 – 3 weeks. My goldfishies at work kept dying, one after another. So I was left last week with one goldfish and a plecko.. You know how devastated I was.. I love my pets, and I do get sad when they die.
I think it is because my filter was dead, and I tried cleaning it and fixing it. No use! Anyways, so I was waiting for the rest to die and I can just forget about having a tank at work and clear some space on my table. However, my boss is back this week and today he said to me, “you want more fish?” However, I said “no”.
He then smiled and was all excited and said, “you want a lizard!” I said, “God no! I don’t want to buy crickets and feed them live animals! Especially here at work!” He said, “what about turtles?” I said, “hmmm, why not!!” So he said, “we will go get a turtle!” He just likes to cheer me up cause he noticed I was sad cause of it.
So we went to this pet store in east of the city that sold turtles. (not many places I know sell them in London.) Anyways, so first we had to go on a Costco run because my boss wanted to buy some computer stuff. However, the person I can’t stand came along, and I got so irritated from him talking non stop like he knew everything in the world! I was about to scream and just hit something. It’s unbelievable how much I can calm my self down at critical times. At least at work I have headphones and really loud techno music to cover his excessive talking about non-sense and sarcasm all day.
After that we went to the pet store and I got my Mississippi Map Turtle. Weird name eh? Anyways, so I got it, it was 50 bucks! I know it is free in Mississippi. Duh! But I am thinking this is well bread in a pet store. I didn’t want a red eared turtle. I had one before and I found them to be so boring and didn’t move much. This guy I bought is insane! I love it. So I bought some turtle stuff and a heated lamp. I took the plecko out of the tank and I kept the goldfish. The turtle is about 2 inches in length. Which is good. The turtle I had long time ago was as big as a quarter..This guy had a scaly back which I thought was wicked cool.
So I thought for an hour what to name the little guy. Since I am so into reading the Harry Potter series, and I am on the second book now, (yes I am slow!), I wanted to name it something weird. So I didn’t want to name it a Muggle. I thought about it, but nah. Muggles are humans with no wizardly powers. So I thought more, should I call it Parselmouth, but no, it’s not a snake. Hmm, so I thought, well, if a dumb wizard was born into a wizard family, but couldn’t use magic well, or at all, and turned him self into a turtle forever, then I will call it, Squib! Squibs in H.P. are wizards born into wizarding families but can’t do magic properly or at all! But they are not muggles! Remember.. it’s not a squid, it’s a Squib! Sorry, you got to read Harry Potter first or watch the movies to know what I am talking about.
By the way, I nick named him Squibby!
So I decided to take a video of it using my crappy cell phone cam. Next time I will use the laptop’s camera. It’s a lot better. So I decided to make a youtube account for my blog, and start putting videos. I will be putting a lot of my turtle! The Squib!
I will also make a page for my turtle. I love turtles! More than fish. Hehe..
He will be the new rebellious blogger.. He will share his rebellion by video!

Cool little turtle…I have a fish but he doesn’t do much. He just likes to float in one place all day.
float? are you sure he is not dead!
Quite an active turtle. Definitely more interesting than your standard gold fish.
indeed.. i still got the goldfish.. i am waiting for squibby to get bigger.. the stupid goldfish is his dessert!
I want a turtle now. Just keep the Ooze away or you’ll have a situation.
Almost every turtle I have seen moves at about .5 an inch a year. This little guy has to be the fastest turtle I have watched, on land or in the water.
Wellll, I take that back…maybe the second-fastest but most fun to watch for sure, little spunky guy. The fastest ones may be those new born little turtles born in sandy beaches and hurrying back to catch the tide and dodge the birds trying to pluck them on the way there.
By the way, how do we know it’s a HE and not a SHE? How do we distinguish Turtle uhhh, you know… gender?
JohnL – turtles are cute pets and you don’t have to clean the tank that much.. easier to maintain I believe.. not messy..
BostonWW – hehehe.. you changed your nick name?
yah.. if you have clicked on the link I had in the post, you will read more about the gender..
Here is more info if you don’t want to click.. lol

larger than WHAT? I am not sure what the frame of reference is here? Are you an expert on the ‘average size of a female turtle’ and how that compares to an ‘average’ male’s? Hey, it looks like we still have abit more homework to do here. I have to go brsh up on turtle tail theory now.
I did a quick google and it says that it is harder when they’re young and it gets ‘clearer’ as they age. Be patient, Rebel! Get your measuring tape ready….(can we defer the naming until then??)
Oh, I ‘changed’ my nick and failed to click on the page because..here it is:
- I was lazy.
- I was hopping between diff screens doing diff things at the same time. I didn’t think there was additional, very instructional, very useful info there but that teeaches me, so next time, I will make sure I follow all the Mona leads. Deal? (..and uhh..I’ll try to be a bit less lazy too…)
BostonWW – hehehe.. I still will call it Squibby. Male or female.. I know it is hard to tell. Most aquatic creatures you can tell the gender by the tail. The bigger the tail… you know what I mean..
Anyways.. I will keep taking pics over time and maybe in a few months we will figure out if it is a male or female turtle.
