Guilty or No?

By: Mona

judge1.gifI was thinking about this for the past 4 weeks.. How people at work don’t do work. All they do is watch stupid downloaded shows and movies. It’s pathetic. I don’t care if they watch it and still do their work. Programmers are known to be lazy bums who need entertainment to keep their sanity.. but they do nothing! So today I got fed up. When they constantly laugh and comment about the stupid shows they are watching, even though I have loud music and headphones on, I can hear them and see them! It’s not like they are on the keyboard typing or holding the mouse and looking like they are working. No. They were just sitting there laying back on their chairs enjoying the show.

Obviously I was fed up.

I messaged the boss man and told him. I was fed up. I rather go home early cause I work from 8 – 4. My lunch brakes I cut them down to 30 min so I can finish the stupid game I am making quicker and start full testing and debugging by the end of August.

So I told. I was a snitch. I was furious. I was honest and straight up. I told him. Few seconds later I guess the clowns at work got the message and one guy bursted out of his seat and said to the other guy, “we are busted.” It’s like going to work watching a pathetic comedy show. I wanted to laugh and I wanted to see what they will do next. I really don’t know what they did or what they were told to do. I could care less. I just straight up and I told my boss, “I don’t care about them and I never will, but I will not let them waste my time and make my work look bad.” I had enough of them and their whining and complaining about their life and money. They get a salary just like me. Fuck. Can’t they just fucken work?? Don’t they feel morally guilty for getting paid to sit and watch movies and tv shows on their computers?

I was more than a bitch than ever. It’s not like I didn’t have proof or anything of what they are doing. It was something I was noticing over the past few weeks. I am a system admin on the server and I saw the logs and activities. One guy last logged in 2 weeks ago and created a folder with a bogus name and in it I saw 6 or 7 episodes of some stupid TV show. Great waste of space.

Not only that, when the boss came back from vacation, all they did was show off and act like they did so much work and talked and talked. It was like watching a guilty child tell his parents a story so he/she won’t get in trouble. It was seriously pathetic to hear.

Seriously.. sometimes I wish I was a naive worker who was deaf and half blind and just didn’t see or know anything about what’s going on. Cause this situation really pisses me off. It makes me agitated and hateful of having such a job. Last week I was at the edge of quitting, then I thought maybe I should just take a vacation in first week of September when I have finished my work. I think I will do that because I am so sick of them. They act like 5 year olds who constantly need supervision and someone telling them what to do.

I swear I could care less and have no sympathy if they got fired. So many people out there are looking for a decent job to live, and I have to suffer watching clowns at work who have one. It’s pathetic!

Your last sentence is exactly what I was going to say: So many people would do anything to be able to work…and there are those who have a job, and squander it. Its beyond ridiculous, and you know what, good for you. You were not being a snitch…you were being responsible.

I dunno. I really don’t care if people goof off the entire day, week or month. Its more about their boss. They have work to get done, they either do it, or they don’t.

If they goof off and don’t get in trouble, for not completling their work, it’s a bad boss.

Any open postions? I need more free time;……

How do they get away with it then if they don’t do anything?

Don’t they have to turn in their work to the boss at some point.

How can he not be aware of it? People either produce or they don’t. I know programmers, and they goof off all day, but they still produce results, and get their work done.

It should be very apparent to your boss if they are meeting deadlines, and if they aren’t how often they are missing them, why they are, and the quality of work.

    I second rich too..
Its non of ones business, if one is not the boss…

I was working sometime on something btw, and if you came around any time you’d find me and the rest of the team, having a good laugh as if we’ve never touched a keyboard…
yet, things just be finished.. and ok… we’ve handled everything on time.. so why bother!

Yes, why do you seem bothered by this, every employed person should work and otherwise s/he will be punished sooner or later, if we sit laughing at work and there is nothing to do, why not ?!! there are some employees (whom i know)that never work, coming early just to prove there presence and coming again at the end of work to sign and leave calmly…!! I’m not kidding ..

Gradly.. your logic is completely wrong. Why the hell would you tolerate people at your work not working while you are suffering with deadlines. Do you think that is fair?

And the place that you work at is no different than mine.

cuz they are (I mean some employees) are overplus … I’m utterly not agree with this “carelessness”, but what can i do ? I feel angry, furious, but what next. all i can do is watching .. I cannot practice tattling or so .. i just can comment on ur blog about such issues. :) that’s it ..

I work with lazy bastards, they just put their work on others that are willing to put in a hard days work. I don’t really complain cos I hate confrontation, besides the boss knows who they are but he never does anything about it. If I say anything it will just create tension for me so if the boss accepts the way things are what can I do

    Hello Stephen,

I know what you mean and I sometimes feel the same way.. I don’t think I want to complain or say anything anymore.. cause I am fed up from the whole situation..

I agree 100% with your frustation, but, I think it would be best to find a new job, because I think it should be easily recognized by their supervisor, is all I was trying to say. The fact you have to bring it up, says allot in my book.

I will look for another job. That’s my next 4 or 5 months plan while I finish my current project completely at work.. I am hoping to look for something better by the new year.. around February or March.. that’s the plan I hope.. If I can’t get anything decent, than I am stuck for another year..

And for the issue for bringing it up.. yah I brought it up.. it wasn’t really the first time, but every other time I seemed to be ignored and I was given other reasons for such behavior.. enough of that.. I am just going to work and leave.. I will have zero association with such people.

I wouldn’t normally care if a bunch of people at work goofed off but I work in a team so it affects me. I don’t like being the one doing all the work while others get the credit along with me. I hate teamwork because there is usually some slacker or slackers who usually ride the coat tails of others. Slackers love teamwork for the simple fact that they can get away with goofing off while poor honest people like me work too hard doing their job as well as my own. :x
