Third day down, twenty-seven to go

By: Mona
.......................

I woke up this morning at 2:30 am. I wasn’t feeling good and I spent it in the bathroom. So I went back to bed. I could not sleep. I then sat on the computer and checked my emails and blog and other stuff. I didn’t bother to reply to anyone or anything. The problem is cause I stayed up, I couldn’t go back to sleep at all. At around 3:10 am I went downstairs. My brother and his wife were up cause their cute baby kept them up, and his wife was sick and had a fever and cold. I said, “wuzzup, what you guys watching and why you are not sleeping. I am hungry. How about eggs?”

My brother said, “hmm, good idea, boil some eggs please and we will eat too.” So I did and I had no idea what they were watching. So I watched a bit of their show. They only watch Syrian shows and record them and watch them again. That’s all they do.

So after I ate I went back to sleep around 4:00 am. I had hard time sleeping. I should have read a book or something then I would have fell sleep quicker. I got up at 9:00 am then. I was fresh and awake. It seems the baby didn’t let my bro and his wife sleep at all. My mom was busy too and she told me to watch her. So I did till 1:00 pm. I kept flipping channels on the stupid satellite. My sister than came and said, “are we going to the mall or what!!?” I said, “no I am lazy and I need to dry my hair. Too much work.” She said, “you are a lazy bum!”

I laughed and just sat there for a few minutes. My mom came back and I told her to watch the baby. I went to my room and I was so cold cause my hair is wet.  I decided to dry it and I was like, what the heck. Let’s go to the mall! haha. So I went with my sister to the mall and I bought some stuff that was on sale and then got home around 3:30 pm. My mom started cooking and I decided to help her out for a bit. I then went up to my room and laid down on the bed and guess what. I fell asleep!

hehe.. I woke then around 6:30 pm and I remembered that I had to make an egg salad.  I made it and it was good. The hit of the day! hahah. I like making salads.

Here is the thing, we exchange food us and my mom’s friend. She lives up the street and she is Syrian. She loves my mom’s food and can’t wait for Ramadan. She sends us food and we give her too. It feels like back home. It is nice. My dad is impatient and likes to the send the food 20 minutes before eating. He says he wants to sit down and relax in pajamas and eat. hehe.  So they never have the food ready that early. Today they were late. We were 10 minutes into eating and their daughter came knocking on our door. She brought us lots of food, and I was already stuffed. However, since I like food and I like to try anything, I stayed on the table. I just sat there and looked. I wasn’t eating. I was just looking at the dishes and wondering what’s in what. How was it cooked and how does it taste like. She doesn’t put salt or spices in the food because her husband is very sick. I don’t mind, I got a salt shaker and I am willing to try anything. As everyone left the table to go pray maghreb, my mom then came back and said, “Mona and Maria, aren’t you guys done eating!” I said, “well, she is trying the mushroom soup, it is from campbell’s soup can. It is good, and I am trying this thing with egg plants or something, and this chicken is missing salt, but shake shake, I can shake the salt shaker, and I laughed!” My mom said, “common, stop eating and clean the dishes!” I said, “whaaaaaaaaaat.. I do not clean dishes, I will remove them, I will clean the table, but no dishes!”

So now I am in my room and very dozed off from stuffing my face. I think I will be a moving cow in Ramadan cause of all the food I eat. I think it is cause of the long days. Almost 12 hours not eating during the day and no coffee makes me very sleepy. Anyways, my mom made traditional Arab coffee and I will go grab some. It is very very good and makes a person feel like they are drugged.

Mona! It is fun to see how ramadan fares in west, I only had one ramadan in US and that was winter so no issue. In Saudi we are doing 6 hours working day but the work in hospital remains same that mean we have to stay back. But the fun is after Ishaa when after Traveeh, the whole city doesnt sleep until 2 am and all the shopping is done in the night. I will be looking forward to your daily ramadan blog and wait till the Eid
