Would you ever?
I was thinking about my name. Mona.. what it means.. and do I actually like my name? Does my name effect who I am? I always liked my name for several reasons. It is easy to say, an international name, and has a simple meaning in Arabic. It means a wish or desire. However, a lot of times I don’t like my name and I don’t even like telling people my name.
First off, I don’t like my name because it is too famous. I don’t like my name because people in English speaking countries say it differently than the rest of the world that it lost all meaning. In English it is pronounces “mowna”, and in Arabic and other countries it is pronounced “muna.”
So what name would I have preferred?
My niece if named Malak (Angel). Who named her? Me. I named her that because I always wanted my name to be Malak instead of Mona. I really wanted that name. So I was thrilled that my niece was named that.
Now, I can’t do anything about my name. I got to live with it. Although I know that you can legally change your name. But why would I insult my parents cause of a name change?
So I always thought of my favourite names. I like the names Meriam, Noura, Layla, and Zeina. I just love those names because they actually have a good meaning. Unlike my name that means a wish or desire. What the hell am I wishing for really?
I want a new nickname. I could have easily masked my blog and used a different name than my real name Mona. But like I said, it is an easy international name. Simple. Right?
I want to be named hmm..
*thinking*

i think its kind of kewl that your name actually “means” something… a wish or desire..not a bad thing at all
you could be many peoples wish or desire…you NEVER know.. i mean ugh! my name is Robert…blah.. its like a clone name… i work with 3…go to church with 5…etc etc…but it was my dads name ..so what can i say?? And then of course there are the nicknames…rob robby bob bobby… UGH! i am ROBERT …get it straight people..
if i had to choose my own… hmm i dunno..id spend the rest of my life trying to make a decision..my typical ‘net name is Zero Cochrane ..from an old cyber-punk series i used to like..ok ok..im babbling..sorry.. hmm so a new name for you..hmm whats the Arabic word for “feisty” ? KIDDING…
I donno what feisty is in arabic.. hmm.
My mom’s Mona too
– It’s a nice name girl – I actually like hearing people call my mom Mowna
My name is Bana & people make fun of it all the time bah Hey, it’s unique
bana? that’s not arabic thought.. is it? :S
yeah men gho9n elban.. 9aba7 fakhry ghannalee
Oh, another thing, why is that, as soon as an international celebrity having succes, is known to have 1%, 2%, or even 50% of arab descending (origin?) man consider her an arab 100%,think Shakira, Salma Hayek.!!!
It is true they have arab influence, but common, it is annoying when they have success, they go: Suuuure, she s arab.
If she wasn t, she -shakira-would be another spanish hot bitch in theire eyes, lolllll as Christina and many others
My name is Nour, i like the meaning of the name but what bothers me is that 99.9 of the Jordanian females are called Nour, especially if born between 1977 and 1980.. I personally have 4 close friends called Nour, and I hate the fact that they have to call me by my family name to distinguish between me and the other Nours.. I like my name to be unique and it is not..
