Will there be another blogging software?

Google Buzz

I have been using wordpress for years now and frankly, it is out dated. It is not that great anymore. I am trying to figure out what other powerful blogging software out there that has many users who contribute to it. In contribution I mean plugins, themes, etc. Anything to make it better. However, many plugins I have downloaded and tried to use for wordpress are aweful. They don’t work, break my blog, or just don’t do what it is meant to be done.

If you are a plugin developer, then please test your plugins on multiple versions of wordpress and make sure that anyone can use it. Not just your blog is the one and ultimate testing piece for your plugin.

Many people would say, “why don’t you make your own plugins?”

There is a programmer rule. Why write one when someone else out there has done one already. Why should I re-create what has already been done. If might have been half-ass and not that great, but contributing to the developer and helping them out is a lot less time consuming than writing one on my own.

Moreover, Wordpress lacks many features and a lot of annoyances. For example, if I want to post a video from youtube, I have to go to my profile and un-check “Use the visual editor when writing.” Why doesn’t the stupid visual editor accept youtube code? I find it silly that I have to switch editors depending on what I post for the day. And if I want to edit my post that has the video and I do it quickly without realizing that my visual editor is on, my youtube video is gone. I have to go through so many steps just to post a video.

Wordpress is slow. Very slow. The more plugins and options you add to it, the slower posting to your site becomes. I don’t have time to wait. If things in my computer world don’t process within a 3 second time frame, then it is not worth it. How long does it take to save 2 or 3 kb of text to a MySQL database anyways?

I am just tired of Wordpress and contemplating finding other solutions. I need it to be easy to use, has drag and drop features that make me say “WOW” all the time. I want it to have a better plugin manager and tester. Have an option saying that the plugin will work and won’t break my site. Or use this plugin at your own discretion. We are not responsible for our crappy work.

This is why some people don’t bother designing their own blog instead use free services like blogger.com and bravenet.com. It is a lot quicker and easier for a casual blogger to use those services unless they are planning to become a professional blogger and make lots of money off it then you want the capability of being able to back up all your posts on your site and have your own URL with no blogger.com attached to it. I could have designed my own blog too but I am lazy and a cheapskate so I went with a free service.

Its like firefox, you can’t expect every plugin ever made to work with all others. This is hundreds of people who don’t talk to one another writing code that can easily conflict. Best thing to do is to learn PHP, and make your own plugins.

the youtube or any sort of embedding on wordpress kills me! it’s really lame. Have you considered Typepad or Movable type? I don’t know much about them.. but I heard they were good.

Wordpress is not the only blogging software available, there are plenty of them, you can pick the one satisfies your needs. However, Wordpress is the best tool, it doesn’t mean because it’s the best that it’s perfect! Website performance is related to many aspects; you host service provider, database size, number and size of queries generated by plug-ins…etc

Don’t count this as a fight too :p

No no! Believe me I don’t like fights.

You can do a research and I’m certain you will find what meets your needs.
