Too much time with the family

By: Mona
.......................

Two days ago, my dad asked me where he can listen to music on the net. Quick and easy. I am like, hmm, try youtube.com. He said, “what is that?” I said, “it is a site that has videos of the old songs you like.” He said, “wow, this is fast.”

Now he is addicted.

My sister’s computer is in the same room as my dad’s work desk area. She comes up to me and says, “why you told him about youtube! He listens to music so loud!” I told her, “but you always put headphones on.” She said, “I have to put headphones and he doesn’t! Not fair. I can still hear his music with my headphones on!”

I laughed and told her, “ha ha.” (In a Nelson Muntz’s tone from the Simpsons.)

Later in the day, I usually sit in my room of course enjoying my new monitor, and I spend half my day reading other blogs and stumbling through many sites. I go downstairs and sit in the family room with my mom. She has the Arabic satellite on full blast. She tells me in a loud voice, “WHY DON’T YOU SIT WITH ME! I AM YOUR MOTHER. YOU ARE ON VACATION. SPEND IT WITH ME!” I said, “Aaah.. I don’t know what you are watching. Half the time you watch those stupid Arabic music videos and all you do is criticize the singers and everything about the music video. I don’t like Arabic music now because they are all models pretending to sing and frankly, they HURT my already damaged ear. I am going back upstairs.”

After a few hours she comes up to my room and says, “why don’t I see you? Don’t you want to spend time with your mom?”

I rolled my eyes and felt de javu all over again.

Today, my sister has this tendency to talk. Talk talk talk about anything, and criticize everything. If you say anything to her, she replies back saying, “what about you! You are the same.” She really pisses me off. We were in the car with dad, and she just kept talking and saying, “Mona did this, Mona bought that.” I got mad and said, “you NEED TO STOP IT!” My dad got mad and said, “will you ever be polite to your sister? She is 14.5 years younger than you. She learns from you.” I said, “from me? Whatever. Fine! I will be polite to her.”

The little devil looked at me with an evil victorious laugh. She is horribly spoiled! She needs a few smacks in the face!

That’s a reason I would be a horrible mother, I don’t tolerate bad behaviour and I just say, “SHUT UP!” With a few smacks here and there..

Omg, that whole part about your parent watching arabic satellite and yelling at you for spending time on the computer and not enough time with them is describing my life exactly haha. When ever my parents question why i spend so much time away from them i have the urge to tell them it’s the only way for me to keep my sanity, but I never get around to saying it haha. Whats the worst is how my parents are constantly telling me that I’m the only girl who acts this way out of all the arab girls out there. Lol next time I’m going to shove ur blog entry in their faces to read.

Oh and btw I’m also Palestinian and Canadian. Oh and thankfully my dad hasn’t discovered the wonders of youtube… yet ;P

Selma.. yep.. we are all the same. It is a cultural thing really. :D Also, I don’t suggest you show your parents my blog, that would cause a lot of problems with you reading such a rebellious girl’s blog. Blasphemy in their world!

Mr. A.. you are NOT a die-hard Simpson fan if you don’t know last names! :P
