Bad blogging expectations!
I am not the type of blogger who cares much about the number of visitors I get or the money the advertisement on the side bar is getting me. It is not much, and I use it to cover monthly hosting costs and yearly domain name costs. Simple as that. That’s why most bloggers have these ads.
However, the internet has become a landfill of make money online sites. Almost every other blog I blog hop to is like that. How to make money! Get a real job and then you will be making real money! Believe me, it is not a get quick rich scheme. There are only a handful of bloggers who have succeeded in it. Blogging will not make you money. It will if you are selling something. Yet, what can you sell on a blog? I thought of many things to sell. The only thing I came up with is t-shirts. Who would buy a t-shirt saying “Rebellious Arab Blogger?” Yah, I can see a bunch of problems right there. Just make sure you wear it under your other shirt and not in front of people walking down the street. Make sure it is not even in your suitcase before boarding the plane.
So t-shirts would have been great easy money. But nah.. too many headaches.
Then, I get people asking me to buy advertisement space on my site. I am like wicked. I don’t mind that. However, they ask, but never reply back to me with an approval or action to continue on with the idea. Just ask. Ok fine. Whatever!
Then people ask me to make templates for their blogs or any graphical work to help them out and ask me for a quote. How can I give anyone a quote if they won’t give me the details of what they want? Where you just asking out of curiosity thinking I will give you a cheap quote compared to other sites that will do it for $800+. Hmm, no. I am a professional who does this for a living. I take pride in my work. The more you pay me, the more your site will be kick ass and stands out for everyone to notice!
So how can you make real money blogging?
You can’t. You really can’t quit your day job doing this. I completely disagree with others who promote such a thing. The only way to do it, is not only being excellent in expressing your self and ideas, but to offer a service or a way to advertise someone else’s site in return.
Should I start charging people for advertising on my site to make a few bucks? Nop.
People lost the whole meaning of what it is to be a blogger. Why did blogging even become so popular the past 4 or 5 years? Simple. People wanted a personal site to express them selves, and it is pre-coded and a well developed piece of free software that anyone can use, and also to see how others in the world react to what they say. It is more of a curiosity of what others think of them. That’s all.

However, I think it is pretty cool that businesses and especially software development sites and game design sites have their own blogs. They update their loyal customers with the latest news about their products and how things are going. That’s an amazing thing for companies to have on their sites. Also, actors and other celebrities are using blogs to keep their fans up to date with concerts, new work, and even some simple thoughts they are having. These people are utilizing the advantage of having a blog or an online journal as others call it.
So, for those people who want to start a blog, don’t think a blog will be the ultimate and new age way to make money online. I refuse to believe it. Not with a bunch of daily yapping. I am more grateful to have an audience who will read about my daily thoughts. That’s the main objective that every blogger should have when they start blogging. Also, the best part about blogging is when people subscribe to your RSS feeds and come back daily to check it out. That’s the ultimate joy that every blogger should really want in the end of the day. Having the fans!

It is definitely possible to make a good income online, I do it myself, in fact it is my only income, but I’m certainly not going to tell my readers exactly what I do or how I make my income and I do this specifically to protect my income streams.
You’re right though about the number of bloggers who setup ‘make money’ blogs, my own blog has until recently had this as it’s byeline, but I did this because it attracts traffic, you’d be amazed the number of people who go looking for money making sites and the sad reality is that if they use a search engine or social bookmarking service the sites they find will be the sites that are designed to get their attention. Unfortunately it leads to a lot of copycat bloggers.
As for sites like yours, I came across your site completely by accident and it was only your name ‘Rebellious Arab Girl’ that got my attention, in fact if I’d seen your entries without the moniker I probably would have kept going because a third person’s love life usually doesn’t interest me very much, on the other hand the trials and tribulations of an Arab girl living in the west certainly does, but only because I actually believe the world is slowly becoming a better and more civilised place so your story affirms my belief (yeah I know, you’re probably wondering how, but the fact that you are doing what you are is all the evidence I need).
Also, I really like your site design.
Grouupiees..
B.S its thousands of dollars a day..all hidden in ur mattress..good strategy though..
ive been blogging for two years now and this is my first time to monetize my blog by posting some ads. and its not bad for me, in two weeks ive earned 52 dollars. well making money through your blog is not that bad, as long as the essence of blogging is still there. most of the blogs today now concentrates on money maiking strategies.
please visit my blog sometime. you have a nice blogposts.
Carl – I know.. I mentioned that there are exceptions and there are some well off bloggers who make a living out of this. But they are a handful.
Mr.Anonymous – first off, you are accusing me as a liar. I don’t lie or post anything on my blog that is a lie. So you have no right to say “B.S its thousands of dollars a day.” If it was, I would be posting 10 – 20 articles a day just to maintain that income and be classified as a full time blogger earning 4 figure income a day from it.
rara – that’s cool. I will check out your blog and add it to my blog roll..
Making money from blogging is not about the number of posts you write per day, it’s about how many readers you have and whether the product appeals to them. A four figure income is easy money, it’s only $1,000 at it’s minimum, which is only $33 per day on average, any blogger can make that kind of money.
But what Mona was talking about in her post isn’t small amounts like this, she’s talking about the seven figure incomes of the very few big name bloggers.
It’s so easy to get caught up in the ‘make money online’ whirlwind. The tactics used are so silly sometimes – buy my ebook so I can teach you how to make money by re-selling the same book!
I blog because it’s fun and because it’s a good way to keep in touch with my sisters. I put my first tiny little ads up today, but I like the simplicity of our blog. When I make my first dollar, I’ll do a little dance. But at this point, it’s going to be a long time until that happens.
Making Money sucks..!!
What i want to mentioned here is, nowadays most of the new bloggers used blogging as a path to make money online. And it’s truly far away from the original purposed of blogging. I truly believe that blogging supposed to be about sharing thoughts with others. It’s about making connections. It’s about making friends in blogosphere. Want to sell something, do it in a real world. Do some business. That’s more worth it..
Hey, it’s cool to wear a shirt saying “Rebellious Arab Girl..!!” Good way to promote your site..
Seriously, i preferred reading personal blogs rather than making money blogs. The contents are all same and lame..
Sorry for the harsh word. I’m just being honest. Nice knowing you, girl..
