Men don’t get it

By: Mona

Two days ago I wrote about the love letter and how I am sick of this obsession men have from reading my blog and thinking I am perfect for them. Well, the day after (yesterday) I got another email with a similar story. I just told the guy off cause I am sick of these daily emails from anonymous guys. Well, I guess he didn’t get the hint. He kept bragging on and on about his life thinking I am not interested because I don’t know much about him and why I refuse to call him.

This line he wrote struck me and made me think huh? What world do we live in? This is 2008!

i know you will not call and that normal because you are under pressere .

What pressure? He couldn’t even spell it or put a sentence grammatically together! I don’t get it? Are girls under pressure to not talk to guys anymore? Dude!! The internet??? Messengers?? In a messenger there is voice chat and web cams. Who calls using a real phone number anymore from the first time? This is so weird. I showed my friend the email and she laughed hysterically. I told her, I think the only pressure I get is to actually talk to guys which I don’t cause I don’t care and guys in general don’t like me at all in real life. I do not satisfy the image of an “Arab Girl” to please their families especially their moms. That’s why I don’t care or bother talking to anyone.

Also, there is another issue that I said it once and this is the last time! I will NOT IMPORT GUYS from back home! I AM NOT ANYONE’S VISA OR EASY IMMIGRATION METHOD TO CANADA! So leave me ALONE!

Seriously that guy has something wrong with him. But, just for the record, many Arab guys (including me and many people I know) aren’t looking for a typical Arab girl…

Like everything else, this has also become westernized. For me, I want an open-minded girl, that doesn’t have most of the Arab girl personality characteristics, because honestly, I think they’re stupid.

I’m not hating our culture or anything, but thats how I am, I don’t act like an Arab, I pretty much don’t speak alot of Arabic, and I do nothing like Arabs, and I would want my partner to be the same.

So if you’re like that, I’m sure there will be someone just like you out there, that you can identify with easily. The best thing is what you’re already doing… Not give a damn, and leave things happen…

It amazes me! I even got one on Facebook last week. Instead of just ignoring, I saw a couple friends had friended him, so I asked where we knew each other. He said not, but still wanted to be friends. I said “I’m old, happily married, a mom, you can be a friend through my blog”. The guy wouldn’t give up, sent his phone number, I finally had to block him (and my friends don’t remember friending him). Never thought it would happen to me like it does to you, Mona.

“I do not satisfy the image of an “Arab Girl” to please their families especially their moms.”

I don’t think, in most cases, it is their moms you (or other similar Arab women) do not satisfy… even if this may have been an excuse you may have come accross.

Arab men, in the Arab sense, quite honestly, find it difficult to take a relationship to a serious level if they have doubts the Arab girl they are with had been “with” other men before, no matter how western they may appear to be or claim to be, this attitude/characteristic is imbreded and deep-rooted. It is fine if it is simply boyfriend-girlfriend thing; obviously they are getting something out of it, in whatever form it may be. But when the girl looks for a commitment beyond that of simply public/private rendez-vous, the “honour vain” draws blood. Judgement is hence built on her past, or precieved past, rather than on what had transpired between them during the duration of the relationship (which is usually the case in general with western men).

This is in general, of course, and not neccessarily the case all the time. However, knowing Arab men I am aware of the severity of it; living a Western relationship but not quite Western. Unfortunately, as in other cases, it is the female Arab the bares full responsiblity, rather than it being shared.
