You can block proxy ports and also get some plugins to block IPs of known Proxy sites... But its a pain in the ass.

this is why I do not allow any comments on my website anymore. I have to check them all which is annoying...

I have had many people use proxies and I do have some ways to track them...

Find out the time of when they came to your site. Then find out your LATEST VISITORS (Cpanel) and see if they came to your site at the same time as someone else. Then check what BROWSER and COMPUTER they are using... if it all matches then you have there real IP.

Then block that IP.

This is what i do... and it works... But then they just use a Proxy... But i report and send there ISP all the spam and abuse they send me.

It's certainly not full-proof in terms of being secretive. If the authorities wanted to find out who it was, they _probably_ could, but if you start hopping through proxies in different countries, it becomes a lot more difficult to get traffic records from each place because you're now dealing with the laws of each country involved and they may be less likely to cooperate than your domestic ISP. It just raises the bar a bit. I know people who use proxies for ALL their browsing just to make it harder to track movements throughout the web. Of course, I also work in the information security industry, too. They're not doing anything wrong really, they just don't want a full record of their browsing to be easily trackable.

I agree that it is extremely aggravating when people hide behind proxies just to leave ignorant comments. I believe there are real-time lists of proxies out there you can block as soon as someone comes to your blog.

However, proxies serve a wonderful purpose. With increased government communications surveillance, in the US and worldwide, proxies often provide a line of anonymity that could help protect someone's job, freedom, or life.

I hope and pray that there will always be open proxies available for use for precisely that reason.

Thanks and keep up the great work!
