The past week my black Moor gold fish has been just floating on the top of the tank and on its side. When I put food, it swims around normal and eats, and goes back to that position. I cleaned the fish tank and everything, and still the same problem. I fed it some peas thinking it might have stomach problems, but nothing. Same position.

Today after work, I look at the tank and kept looking and wondering what the hell is wrong with this stupid fish! So I look closer and its stomach is twice its size. I am like holy crap. I think this fish is pregnant. I had these 3 fishes for about 5 years now. So I am guessing it is at its prime breeding age. I think it is time for them to get it on!! And they did. Now I am wondering if she does lay eggs, where at? And the other fat fishies will nibble on those eggs. Do I want more fish? I need a separator and live plants.

We are going to have babies soon!

Sorry to say, but that one is dying. I forget the cause, but that is a disease. I’ve had a few black moores and I’ve seen this before. It will be dead soon.

If you want some fun breeding fish, put 3 guppies in a big tank. The size of the tank has nothing to do with their breeding, but for every three guppies you will probably end up with at least one male and one female. I did that once and by my best count I ended up with 150 guppies later on.

Hi Paul. You may be right. I read all over the net and it says it might have stomach bladder problems and I should feed it more peas. I will see what I can do because I honestly hope it is not pregnant because I don’t want to deal with more fish at all!

Peas? I’ve never heard that one before. If it works, please post about it! I always thought that when this swim bladder problem develops that there’s no cure.

    I will try again tonight..
Peas are a great cure! I used it a lot before. I will try a bit more tonight. It always worked but the other fishies are eating the peas before that sick one.

Also.. my fish are survivors of anything. See that nice gold one. I had it the longest. Over 5 years, and it had sick diseases. One time all the bottom of it was bloody red and the fins were rotting. I got fish medicine. Like little pills from the pet store and put about 4 pills in the tank. Also, with those fat fishies, the water gets dirty fast and if I don’t clean it all the time, then the fish get sick fast. But I wonder why it is taking so long for that bloated one.. hmmm..

Ah yes, fin rot. Fish I’ve owned in the past got that from time to time, but it was always easy to get rid of, like you said.

The swim bladder thing though, I never had a fish survive that. Then again, I’ve never tried peas.

I eat peas by the truckload. Am I going to live forever?
