Honour Killings
I got an email a couple of days ago from someone interested in my opinion about Honour Killings of women in Islam and I should write about it on my blog. I told him I don’t think I want to talk about such controversial issues that disgust me to begin with. Then I got more emails from people asking me to write about different Islamic/Arabic controversial issues because they want to see my opinion about these matters. Since I am known to be the big mouthed opinionated Rebellious Arab Girl then BOO. I have to live up to my name or I will be a lame ass blogger like the rest of the 95% of the blogging world! So I caved and said, “why the hell not!”
What is honour killing of woman?
Well, let’s rephrase that. Why some woman who are raised Muslim, who were taught religion and morals end up acting stupid and being killed by a member of their family?
So why are women being killed this way? In Islam, any female who is not married should not be having any pre-martial relationships with any man. (ie, sex).
Ok.. I understand that part and I 100% agree. It is part of our religion and we have to obey it. The reason a lot of the killings happen because GIRLS ARE DUMB and end up pregnant… how to hide the evidence then eh?
So that part I understand, killing and calling it HONOURABLE I don’t understand. I have known many families that just end up forcing her to get married to the guy so the honour of the family stays well known. Others, well, they think differently and believe that killing their daughter or sister will solve the problem. They think she brought shame to the family, and this is her only punishment.
Fine. I understand that part. Do I agree with it? No.
Then, there are the odd honour killings. I know stories of girls who got killed just for loving a guy and being seen with him in public. I guess to talk to another human being and falling in love is shameful too. That I have to completely disagree with completely. When two people are in love and are out in public and not doing anything shameful then really, why the killing? Preserving the honour of the family for being seen with a guy? Well, hello! How is she going to meet someone..? Arranged marriages are exactly what they mean. ARRANGED! How can two people love one another if it was arranged? Why can’t people choose one another? What’s wrong with that? Is it worth to be killed cause of it?
Seriously, why did GOD give us human beings a brain and emotions and the ability to love and choose a mate? Why were these women denied that part? Why is it ok for a guy to do whatever the hell he pleases although all the rules of Islam applies to him as well as her! Why men get away with that? Don’t these men bring shame to their families? I don’t get it.
I say, if people think that honour killings of women is ok, then FINE! I SAY THERE SHOULD BE HONOUR KILLINGS OF MEN TOO! Let’s begin with all the shit they do. Like drinking, sex, clubbing, strip clubs, and drugs! If Islam is all about equality of the sexes and it is well known that it is THEN PRACTICE IT! If women bring shame and are going to hell cause of it and should be killed so the family can live in peace, then those men are taking a detour to highway 666 as well! God sees men and women as equals and judges them the same.
Why us human beings that God has created from the mud on the ground can’t do that?
