The world could come to an end and they wouldn't know about. I think the reason some people are like that is that they find the news too depressing to read and some of it might be because they are too lazy to pay attention. If it doesn’t affect them directly, they aren't interested. There are pluses to being that way though. You are happier not knowing the world is crappy and you don’t' have to think as much.
