just from our little emails mona i find that when i say thank you, you return it with a thank you times two. i believe that was the sunnah, but i was like that even when i was a christian so it had something to do with how i was raised. i dont want to speak for the people who dont use such salutations in the conversations, but without them we wouldnt notice the importance of a simple 'thank you'.
I can say thank you all day long, but when it comes to saying sorry im just a bundle of kleenex away from really being sorry.

This is a sad reality.

Most of the time I get to hear kids (very young) specially street children who do not have any manners at all. It's disappointing. I can say that their parents are not doing good on disciplining their children... and I guess it's because kids now are exposed to an environment that displays bad influence.

With the grown-ups case, I guess they and specially most men, they think that being extra nice will make them less manly, that being an ass can make them extra cool and can gain them more respect because they're feared.

I guess there's nothing wrong reminding people to be nice or show respect... that's the least thing we can do so they'll realize that they're not doing any good at all.

very nice entry here. ^__^ keep it up.

have a nice day.

I feel the same way!!
Especially when I travel to another state... I guess it's really true that people in the south are a little nicer. This reminded me of a few people who could use a smack for being rude recently-lol, but I really do not understand what pepople are being taught anymore... what is wrong with saying please and thank you? That really gets under my skin.

@Dave Lahn - I am not talking here about over doing it. I am just saying in general, why do people think it is strange. I understand over doing can be fake over time, but some people say it because they mean it. Like me, I say thanks and sorry constantly. It annoys people, but I do mean it. Nothing comes out of my mouth unless I mean it.

Manners are politeness are important. It's also important not to overdo it. If you overdo it, people tend to believe that you're not being genuine.

Let me give you an example. When I used to work at a restaurant, the most common thing to be said by each staff member to other staff members was "Oh I'm so sorry
!" after running into them, or getting in their way. Now, considering that this can happen to each person approximately 50-100 times per night, it becomes the belief that this "I'm sorry" is just an obligatory response to something that is completely inevitable given the work environment.
