Occasional American reader here. Irish/American Midwesterner(Christian). I'm not friendly to Hamas and other extremists but sympathetic to Palestinian people's plight. It is a sad situation existing NOW but was largely brought on by Hamas govt not trying to make a deal with Israelis and simply just letting the militants do whatever...

Please refer to:
www.stategypage.com.

2nd column, near bottom.

"Targeting Gaza cellphones"

It shows the intent behind the effort to thwart any communications for Hamas operatives and sympathizers. (Lots of other people would obviously be inconvenienced.)

That doesn't make it any less nerve-wracking to be unable to contact family members. Sorry but you'll need to wait it out.

There is a saying that "Patience is a Virtue". May God bring Peace to our World. God is Great.

How was it ignorant and closed-minded? It was a simple question and/or comment, I was flabbergasted at how you immediately attribute phone problems to "israel must be doing something", and it's my opinion that this type of attitude (on both sides, for there are no innocent people in that region by now, I'm certain everyone in that region is accustomed to misery, blames the other side, and the vicious circle continues) is the reason for the continuing conflict.

I personally found your immediate assumption that the Israelis had any interests in your mother's communications quite ignorant, not to mention many of your follow up comments. You conject that their goal is to kill arabs, yet the ruling Palestinian party have openly said that their aim is killing Jews. But hey, I'm white so I clearly have no idea what's going on and I'm influenced by the zionist media. Please.

As I said, there are no innocents... but there certainly *is* a lot of ignorance.

Hi.. thanks for your comment and your point of you. I have been calling people ignorant because they literally have been attacking me through my site and Twitter. They are personal attacks and saying I should be ashamed of being Palestinian. If you read my post today, I do not have hate towards anyone. I want the killing and injustice to stop. I think both sides are wrong. I am not supporting either side. To me, if it was a just military action, so be it. However, civilians being in the middle of it is not right.

Hello dear Mona,
First, allow me to say that I'm an Israeli and I enjoy reading your blog from time to time. I like your writing and your rebellious spirit. When you started making remarks about the Israeli assault in Gaza, I felt that I had to reply in some way and not just observe like I usually do. I truly understand the anger and frustration that the current situation brings you to, but I don't think that calling anyone who doesn't agree with your opinions an ignorant is the appropriate reply (you used that word a lot lately, here and on twitter). I think it's sad that people are being killed and I wish for it to stop, but you really have to see the bigger picture. The Arab countries that you claim to be watching and not doing anything actually support this action against Hamas but they can't afford to say that out loud. Hamas is an Iranian supported group and the issues between the Arab world and Iran (a non Arab country that's trying it's best to take over the Muslim world) go way beyond the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Even Abu Mazen is Happy that someone else takes care of the Hamas after it took hold of his regime in Gaza. I think that the people of Gaza are mislead by the Hamas, which uses them as puppets instead of trying to help their wellbeing and freedom. I'm not saying that this military action is the solution for the region's problems, as I said before, I oppose this action, but if you really care about the people who live in Gaza, you should know that they are victimized by the fascist Hamas movement. By the way, don't be so paranoid, I can assure you that no one in Israel wants to occupy Gaza strip (even people who fully support the war) once more. People here don't enjoy seeing their young kids go to Gaza but they fill something has to be done, so that something, like many other times in history, automatically becomes an act of war that keeps maintaining itself (one side attacks, the other strikes back...). Please don't be so full of hate towards Israelis, sooner or later the two nations will have to live in peace side by side. There's just no other solution. I know a few Palestinians who live here, and strangely enough, when I read your comments it looks like I have a better chance of getting along with them than with Palestinians who live miles away from the conflict area. Maybe it's because they know how complex things really are around here. I'll be happy if you reply to this comment but please just don't call me an ignorant, there are other useful words to suit the occasion.
Hope for better days ahead, goodbye.

Wow. This... right after a plea to "stop the killing in gaza."

Now it couldn't just be that refugee camps use crap, hand-me-down telephone hardware, nope, it has to be an israeli conspiracy.

I'm not your typical dumbass american that believes israel can do no wrong, but take a look at your writing on the subject of israel. It's your blind hatred which keeps the fighting going, and the israelis do the same thing.

The israelis and the palestinians all deserve to live in the misery they're living in because none of them can let go of the bad blood, they all continue to claim they're innocent and the other side is the aggressor.

Palestine got given back Gaza, and they continue to fire rockets into Israel proper. They then cry when Israel retaliates. Israel then cries when Hamas retaliates, and the circle continues.

I can't wait for the end that both sides are convinced is coming, to come, and then everyone on both sides will burn in hell when the creator (whatever his name may be) will cry at the atrocities committed in his name.

@Lela @Mona
How about this for the flip side - In London, UK you will see women wearing hijab or sometimes even the niqab and behave in 'wrong' ways. In general, Muslims pay waaaaaaay too much attention on looks rather than substance of a person - age old story of judging a book by the cover - no?

The plan is to kick every Arab out of Gaza. Disinformation going around is that there were never a Palestinian people. Where would Israel put all the migrating Jews in Israel? They need more land. I posted my views on the current situation in Gaza and was advised to study history for clarity on the issue. I am appalled by the inaction of everybody. Israel has been playing the victim's game for decades. It is high time the world know how barbaric God's chosen people are.
