The war to kill children & Twitter hate

By: Mona
.......................

Google Buzz

I will call the war in Gaza from now on the “War to Kill Children.” Why? Simple. When you kill as many children as you can, you don’t have to worry about them growing up and joining some fanatic religious organization. Target UN school. Target homes. Target, well, everything. Who cares. Kill them all. That’s the philosophy of a true war to annihilate an entire culture.

This war in Gaza is tearing me apart. I can’t work or do anything but read the news. I try to spread the news through Facebook or through Twitter. However, Twitter has been such a horrible place lately. Too many attacks. Too many people sending me hateful comments or comments that argue back a fact. How the fuck can anyone argue a stated fact? Tell me how in the world can you, a logical intelligent person argue facts? Can’t you see videos? Can’t you see pics? What? Photoshoped? Video edited? Is that your argument?

I am not supporting either side. I am totally against any organization. I am neither with Hamas or Hizbollah or Iran or Israel or US. I don’t give two shits about any of them, and I don’t agree with any of them. I believe that children and women should not be a target in any war. Even US would never go into a war and start killing anyone. They have a bit more sympathy than that.

13 days and Arab leaders sitting on their asses doing nothing but have closed door meetings with no conclusions. No wonder why I don’t like Arab nations. They probably say, “yah.. let them get rid of Hamas. That’s the intent of the war.” Sure. Hamas is the MAIN target in this war. If it was true, Israel could have easily gotten their ground troops from first day, went to every house and did a search. Capture those they “believe” are with Hamas and detain them. Simple. Wouldn’t that have been easier? Wouldn’t have that been the most logical solution to avoid civilian causalities?

Many people ask me why I complain so much about the hateful comments on Twitter. Why was I a target to hate and they aren’t. Simple. I am Palestenian and I write how much I am disgusted with what is going on. That’s it.

What are people saying to me? I will show you all the Tweets I have been getting.

twitterMany people told me to block them, and I did. I have blocked over 30 people off Twitter so far. Most are hateful propaganda Twitter bots. Some suggested I should make my Tweets private. But No. I will never. I want to spread the word in any way I can. That’s the only power I got, and I will use it 100% to my advantage. Also, over 100 people added me to Twitter the past week. I get an email every time someone ads me, and half I do not accept because I don’t know who they are or they are bots.

Today, I got an email from a friend of mine through this blog that is in the US military and has been to Iraq, and he told me this.

This Gaza conflict is making me mad and Isreal has gone too far. If I were US president I would really help Palestine. Isreal claims to be going after Hamas targets yet so many innocent civilians are getting killed. I may be wrong but it seems like Isreal is attacking a large area to take out a smal target within a much smaller area. Heck if the US military did that we would be in a world of hurt.

My high school was predominantly Jewish. I was one of the few Arabs there. I remember non Jews would say they are Jewish just so the traditional Jews don’t give them a hard time. I think there are Jews who are racist. Where I’m from in California there are traditional Jews whose family heritage is from Israel. If someone wasn’t Jewish or were Jewish but their roots were not from Israel they didn’t want to talk to those people. I’m fed up with how Jews until this day go to the extreme wanting sympathy because of what happened to them in Europe during the 40s. I never see Black people wanting sympathy for what they went through in the US for 400 years. They would like peoples understanding, that I can agree with. Same with the Armenians, the generation that went through the 1915 genocide get emotional about what happened and I’ll say that too is understandable, because of what they experienced. With Jews, they use all sorts of ways to gain sympathy and it gets annoying.

I think that’s enough for today. I just watch the news, read articles from all sources (None Arabs), and read many blogs such as Sabbah’s! That’s how I am keeping up with the news, and I spread it as it happens.

I’ve seen the same thing… and I only tweeted about it once. There’s no winning and no use arguing really. Those who defend Israel that adamantly aren’t going to be convinced of reality in 140 characters.

But what really bothers me is the hate. If you’re on Israel’s side, fine. There are rational, reasonable arguments for both sides. But that doesn’t seem to exist anymore. It’s blatant disregard for reality and history that facilitates the rage here. And it’s a shame. It’s as if our discourse simply mirrors the situation on the ground when, really, it is our discourse that needs to _change_ the situation on the ground.

I don’t think Hamas is a terroist group. I think they are just people who know they are the only thing their country has to fight back against Israel’s terror acts.

    I have 2 points
1)The more normal people talk about this conflict, or more specifically – if people who are against the unnecessary killing of innocent civillians speak about this (loudly as you do), there will be more noise created (atleast on the blogging circuit) and will gain support of those people who are sitting on the fence.

    2) I am of the opinion that when people ‘do wrong’, they should be named and shamed. Yes – you don’t deserve to be hit with so much crap, and yes – how much can you argue with ignorant people, but just remember – they can’t win the battle. What justification do the pro-Israel supporters have? They have killed hundreds of innocent people – why? Because they took action to deal with their hunger, thirst and lack of a decent human life? If they want to argue this from a religious perspective – I would like to see where in their religion is action like this justified.

All those who value human life over any other thing on this planet can understand the pain and suffering that each and everyone of the people in Gaza is going through. This is a war to kill children – no doubt; the people who have carried out this war (both sides – no doubt), and the people who didn’t prevent this, will both get their just treatment in this world and the hereafter.

We can pray, we can donate to help them, and we can hope for the people of Gaza.

A number of those Twitter posts are, indeed, hateful, and should be dismissed.

But some of them (IE: “dont u think Palestinians will be better off without Hamas?”) ask questions that have a point.

You are too intelligent to lump them all together.

If you are going to call the conflict “The War to Kill Children,” you must realize that Hamas, too, has their own share of children’s blood on their hands.

You have an opportunity to be a voice of reason here in a sea of hyperbole… you are an independent thinker.

The email from the friend in the military was dripping with bigoted generalities… “Jews are like this, Jews do that, Blacks never ask for …etc.etc.”

In stressful times it is easy to spew bigotry alongside pointing fingers of blame, but c’mon, you’re too far ahead of the game to be giving credence to old fashioned hate-sputtering. It must be unnerving to get personal Twitter messages like some of those hateful ones you printed, and if you look at, say, Facebook, you can see it’s happening on both sides.

I just hope that one day there are enough voices of moderation out there to work towards peaceful compromise.

    @Peter
“dont u think Palestinians will be better off without Hamas?” I said this more than once. I am with NEITHER party or organization and I am so against them all! When someone asks me, well what about them, why you blaming us for the deaths, we killed no one, it is their fault, they started it. Then it makes me wonder how all those ppl are dying. I bet you Hamas is killing their own ppl to make the world sorry for them. That’s people’s logic! I read so many hateful comments on other sites, and seriously, ppl’s reasons have become so closed minded and so hateful. As for the email I got, I just post, I don’t comment on what other’s say. People email me, and I post it. Whatever you want to call it, it’s your choice.

I love people like you… it’s like watching someone running towards the light in a dark tunnel… only to realise you get hit by a train. It’s a real shame that your kind don’t support your cause a hundred and ten percent. For us campaigning for peace and the truth – atleast we know what we want. Your kind, run away or rebel against your own when things don’t go yourway.

Read this my friend, I will particularly highlight the Ratings ‘war’ part; and have a wonderful day too!

I may have more to say when I read the comments on here. It seems that many of them want to believe that Israel is a victim when that is far from the truth and until that veil is removed, the general population of this world will not understand it. I have a feeling, the events surrounding the UN Schools and reports about hospital conditions have caused the veil in most of the world to all but disappear and only a few countries still have it.

The power you have is to bring attention to hate & ignorance. I think this is one of the best blogs I’ve ever read. You spent time explaining your position, but also allowed the guilty parties to be seen without much comment. The power of this is huge. This last week I have met many new people who make me proud of myself in knowing there are more people out there like me. I’m glad to be your friend, even if I never meet you, you are my friend and from this point on I will appreciate your thoughts whenever you give them.

I do agree with you that kill of anyone is not okay. I do not like that Hamas fighters have caused death to any Israeli. However, this is one key thing we cannot over look. Israel has one of the most powerful countries with their military. I believe Israel has used their power to cause more death than is needed. If Israel is a democracy, then it also has the rule of law and Israel has violated their own laws in addition to laws agreed upon by the international community. The international laws were ironically passed partly because of what happened to the Jewish community during WWII. Israel is not above the law and cannot plead innocent in this matter.

I just found it stupid that other Arabs were attacking Moey for his life choice and his opinions instead of you people going after those that are involved with the problem. You people never look at the bigger picture and start attacking other Arabs for their opinion. That’s why I was defending Moey. Me agreeing with him for everything he said? Nop. I don’t agree with him much, but I don’t like people going around attacking others for an opinion. Do you get it now?

    I really enjoyed this post.

Everyone I know is really upset about the women and children dying.

Personally, I feel a lot of pressure not to say too much on this topic. I feel censored in my own mind! I don’t want to say any more b/c I don’t want to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but in my last job, I would get in deep trouble if I spoke my true views. Same goes for some of my meditation groups.

The war on PR is really tense in the US. I’m sure it’s the same in Canada. There are very kind people here who don’t care as much about the situation as they should due to the PR being so intense.

This is coming from someone who doesn’t even have a stake in this war.

If you think this is a war to extinguish Palestinians then you’re wrong. Otherwise Gaza would look like the surface of the moon from bombing and shelling. I no longer feel this is a proportionate response but, the choosing of the targets is in line with international law. However, the devastation caused by the weapon system being used on the target needs to be brought back in check.

But, I feel your pain in the hate department. I support the right of a nation to defend itself and I’m getting the same degree of hatred from “opponents”. I support Israel in this conflict because, like myself, the international community considers Hamas terrorists; if it walks, smells, and talks like a terrorist it is a terrorist. Israel has been blasted by rockets since five days after this supposed cease fire (back in June 2008) and I can’t blame them for doing something about it. That DOES NOT mean I agree with the tactics Israel is using to go about ending the terror. Israel is currently creating their enemies of tomorrow.

ecnyc7’s referenced comment is complete hatred seething from what I would like to call a pile of trash. However, he is a person who probably should be talked to in perspective to bring about understanding.

The animosity is even being shown in the diplomatic community. The UN labored for days to write a cease fire agreement that both sides should have been able to agree upon but neither side has even considered a cease fire. In fact, Hamas and Israel rejected the UN cease fire agreement.

Israel isn’t going to stop until Hamas is gone and terror isn’t going to stop until Israel is gone. We have entered a zero sum game.

Warfare has come to its present state because a smaller more lightly armed force with significantly fewer resources has to somehow find a way to make themselves harder to find and hit. That is why you see the kinds of operations in Gaza.

Armies no longer line up on the field and duke it out. I wish we did fight like that. It would make my job a lot easier.

While I agree with you in some cases – I think in the case of Palestine/Israel front this is not the case. It’s hard to claim that it is Hamas’ choice to have significantly fewer resources, barricaded into a very small densely populated area. They really did not have a choice in the matter of where they set up shop. Had they set themselves up in or around a major city in Israel such as Jerusalem and just causes major terror within this city, the rule of law would have taken into effect. The local and country officials would have gone door to door or set up stings, arrested the offenders and placed them in a court of law just like a democracy is meant to do. Countries do not go into major cities and just start bombing and sending in tanks within their own boundaries.

One of the main reasons Hamas felt they should resort to violence is because they felt as though that was the only to accomplish their goals. Having been pushed of land they felt was rightfully theirs, pushed into a densely populated area while they watch as their land becomes sold and bought by others. Then the very country that has placed you in this situation along with their ally the US claim you are a terrorist organization that doesn’t deserve to be brought to any negotiation tables while they restrict the follow of good in and out of your border.

While I do not agree with Hamas, I want to ask, what options did they have?

yes, Hamas is to blame, Yes, Hamas is responsible for the deaths

It seems that whenever Israel responds to violent overtures from groups such as Hizbullah and Hamas, leaders of the international community are quick to assign equal condemnation to Israelis and Palestinians regardless of whether one is legitimately acting in self-defense. In war, there are winners and losers, and the only palatable means of victory come from a disproportionate use of force. It does not make sense to demand one technologically or militarily superior belligerent to refrain from fighting to their full potential, simply because they are able to enact “disproportionate” damage on a weaker foe.
Should the U.S. have refrained from using the atomic bomb because Japan did not yet possess one? Would it have been better to extend Lend-Lease to Nazi Germany as well as Britain so that neither side would gain the advantage? Simply put, a militarily superior force should not limit itself due to the international community’s desire to root for the underdog. Furthermore, Hamas should garner no international sympathy simply because it made the poor decision of engaging an enemy of far-superior military might.

“They want to fight, fine, they can go battle it out somewhere else. Not within civilian territories.”

Hamas started the fight by using your so called “civilian territory” as it’s base…

Israel was supposed to say “meet me at high noon somewhere else”?

neither side has even considered a cease fire

a 3 hour “mini-cease fire” of 3 hours to allow food and medicine was agreed upon

the Hamas utilised it to run more rockets and ammunition into the Gaza city area
