A shocking thing came out of her mouth!

By: Mona
.......................

The TRUTH!

My dearest mother, out of no where today, well, after meeting enough people for the day, told me something interesting. She said, “Why do people think that Palestinians are white? Why do they think they are only supposed to be white? Why do they only want a WHITE girl for their ugly sons? When will Palestinians or those white obsessed mothers get over it!”

I was in shock. Has my mother some how been reading my site, or has been rummaging in my brain and realizing that the shit I have been nagging about all along is true!?

I said, “Well mother, long time ago, I was on the bus, and a friend of mine introduced me to this one Palestinian girl. I told her my name, and where I am from, and she didn’t believe I was Palestinian.”

Mother said, “Aha? Because of your skin colour?”

I said, “Yes. This girl bluntly told me that I am no way Palestinian. Palestinians are not that dark. Palestinians are only white fair skinned people.”

Mother said, “You expect me to believe that most of the major Palestinian cities that are on the shore line of the Mediterranean sea, has only white skinned people?”

I said, “That’s what ignorant people think. They think the sun doesn’t do its job on Palestinians and the skin colour of people of the Mediterranean can never be dark! I am telling you mom, we are foreigners amongst our own people. It’s the world’s mentality. Skin colour!”

My mom is much lighter than me. She is olive toned skin. When she was growing up, people teased her because she was darker than the rest. In other words, not white. So she has a problem when people mention skin colour more than me! And I am way darker! :D It’s hereditary in my family to nag and complain about stupid shit that comes out of people’s mouth that makes no sense what so ever!

I am tan. I have dark brown hair. I have brown eyes. I look like a true middle eastern. Blah! Blah! Kiss my tan Arab ass haters!

I wonder if Arab countries carry tanning beds? Those beds would be so cheap! Just take a cheap ass mattress and put it outside in the sun for a bit. At least you will get cancer either way, but for Arabs, it’s a much slower process, because of all the extra melanin pigments we got! Amen to God given protection! Tralalalahahahaalala!

It’s lame being judged in the Arab world if you arent light enough. I don’t have that problem because I’m pretty light but I have the whole not tall enough issue. If your not 5’7 like a model than your no good.

I think middle easteners are gorgeous, I WISH I had their skin color – I’m a red head with really white skin and “spots” that my daughter says I need to have fixed, she also thinks her father, who is and looks Arab, is black and she wants to be black like her daddy. Everyone is funny about skin color.

Well I watch the news and the Palestinians I see on TV look similar to you. I don’t understand why some people think you are not Palestinian. That is just bizarre.

This race thing is sooooo Gringo. Mediterranean peoples are all shades except maybe the palest and the darkest types.

Here (in the Basque Country) we tend to use the term “Mediterranean” meaning people that is pretty much tanned all the year round, some of which can perfectly be the sybling of a blue-eyed blond (my cousins are that way: three brothers are blond and blue eyed like the dream of Hitler and the other is dark as… as an Arab). We think all them are white anyhow. We even think that Gypsies (Roma) are white, what for us is roughly the same as Caucasoid, not a matter of skin tone.

But I was just reading this article on early 20th century Palestine, full of most interesting photos, and my thoughts were on the line of: it’s much like it was here, except… the mosques? Well that too but specialy what called my attention is how many people looked not really “Mediterranean” (like a Greek or a Moroccan) but rather kind of “Indian” in many cases.

But Indians are white to me too. If Roma are, Indians are too.

I find middle eastern skin tone (especially the olive type) gorgeous. I WISH I had Mona’s flawless skin! Well, I did when I was younger lol….but really, to judge someone on their skin tone…don’t those ladies have nothing else better to do than to critize people to the minute detail? Glad your mom saw through them!

My husband loves my dark skin but sadly, not everyone is like him! It’s too bad people do that to others. I don’t understand why.

*trying to pick myself up from the floor – laughing damn hard*

You know whats funnier is pale people trying so hard to look dark/olive skinned that they turn orange. I wished people would look past the skin colour – black, white, green or orange.

I’m Lebanese and I have dark skin too, not very dark though, but I think just a tone lighter than you. I live in Egypt and all Egyptians think I’m Egyptian because of my skin and hair color. Everyone thinks all Lebanese girls are blond and white, although that is absolutely ridiculous. And every single Palestinian person /I/ have met had dark skin and that was default to me.

However, I do admit of being guilty of often looking at very white and light-colored Arab girls and thinking “Is her mother European?”. I normally imagine Arab people dark. Somor ya3neh. But it’s not normally the sun’s work, it goes back to the origins I think.

    Nice blog, btw :)
