And then, the cops came . . .
I know you all think that my life can’t get any weirder than it is, and believe me, I can’t believe it my self. How much crap can a person go through in one morning? Ask me, I can give you plenty of examples!

I had an appointment this morning to go to get my hair done. I wanted to highlight it and trim the ends. Now I am blond.. Hey mom! You happy now! Anyways, my appointment was at 9 am, and so I tagged along with my sister, so dad can drop her off at her school and then me at the mall. Well, then things got a little interesting after that. My dad was in the parking lot, waiting to turn, and a lot of cars were in the way, and then one nice lady stopped and pointed for us to turn. When my dad was about to turn, he barely put his foot on the gas, and a stroller tapped the side of the car. The lady freaked out! And then.. it got interesting.
My dad freaked out, stopped and got out of the car. The lady was in shock, and my dad said, “is the baby fine? I am sorry, I didn’t see, my apologies.. everything ok.” Then the lady was looking and it seemed everything is fine. Another lady came by with her cell phone and typed down dad’s license plate number. I was like what the hell. My dad looked at the lady and said, “I am solving this. Everything is fine.”
My dad went back into the car, and wanted to leave. But he couldn’t. The mom and that lady stood in front of the car and wouldn’t move. My dad got mad and wondered what the hell was the problem. I got out, and talked to the mom, and said, “is everything fine?” I looked at the stroller and there was no scratch at all. I told her, “there is nothing. Are you planning to take your baby to the hospital now? I don’t get it. Do you want our address and phone number? Take it.” The mom was shocked when I said you wanted to take your baby to the hospital. Not a reaction she expected from me. So the other stupid lady came back again and said, “yes yes, I will write down your number.” I said, “fine. Here. And this is my name.”
My dad was so pissed off, he got out of the car, and since we all know he is an Arab, he SPEAKS LOUD! He said, “what now? Why you people acting like Americans? You are Canadians! Don’t act like Americans!” I thought to my self, oh God! I knew why my dad said that. He thought they were going to make up some stupid story like some people did to us in the states, and go to the doctor and try to get medical reports to get as much money as they can from the insurance company. I kept whispering, “stop it dad! I am taking care of it!”
So we left. In the salon, around 10 o’clock, the principle of my sister’s school called my mobile. And then he tried to understand what the problem was, and then told me, “why was your dad screaming then?” I said, “my dad is old! That’s the way he talks. That’s just him. We didn’t do anything, and we gave all our information to the lady. Nothing happened at all. Not even a scratch.” The principle said, “the husband was concerned, wasn’t sure and he called me to understand. But yes nothing happened except your dad screaming. I will call back the husband to tell him that nothing happened.”
I called my dad few minutes later to tell him what the principle told me. He said, “Of course. Nothing happened. No damage, nothing!”
After I got my hair done, I walked home in the nice beautiful weather, and then showed my mom my new hair. She was so happy! I never seen my mom happy with my hair. Then I went to dad and showed him, then he told me, “the cops came.” I said, “what? why… ? ” He said, “the lady told him that the plastic on the stroller was torn, and they wanted to know why I called her dumb like Americans.” I said, “you didn’t say dumb.. and yes you were angry, but you didn’t say dumb.” He said, “I know.. it is stupid. And there was nothing torn. She probably tore it after. So the cops noticed that I talk loud like a maniac and that’s just the way I am.” I said, “aha.. we all know that. Can you turn down your decibels with these white people? They are not like us.”
My dad said, “yes, then one of the cops got bored and left, because it was nothing. I didn’t do anything. Then the lady cop told him, I think one of the ladies knows people in high places. We got the order to come here from the chief of police. No one can directly contact the chief of police. They are just people that have too much power to abuse. Anyways, there is nothing, and we just came because we had to.”
I laughed hysterically. My mom then told me, the cops were so impressed by our nice home, and they were delighted by us. They kept staring everywhere. I think it is their way to see what kind of people we are.” I told my mom, “they assess people by their status in society. That’s just the way things work. You got money, a middle class home in a middle class neighborhood, then you are a bit more respected. That’s just life.”
Anyways, that’s the story of this morning. I hope you enjoyed it. I got more stories. Stay tuned for another episode of, Mona’s Obscure Life.

Trust you to have all the fun stories!
Like Arabs (yes yes.. same thing everytime), us Indians have this tendency to talk loudly. When I posted about my little accident a few days ago, I wrote about how my dad and the other drivers’ dad went balistic at each other, whereas us younger folk sorted the matter without any drama.
Also, with regards to how impressed the cops were with your home, I think it was more because of the nature of your folks. Arabs (like Indians
) are generally very hospitable and generally welcoming people. Furthermore, if you are a cop, they go all timid and ass-kissy. I bet your mom asked if they wanted a cup of tea! Either ways, our homes are frequently more inviting and thats why people feel comfy-er.
This is going in your book right??
@Moo
well duh!
very interesting mona. good that it turned out well.
what i want to see now is your blond hair
@shiela
Maybe tomorrow I w ill take a pic for sure and post it.
Sounds like an unfortunate situation that you handled well and aside from your father being loud and pissed, everything was okay.
In the play I am working on, a lot about someone’s guilt can be deducted by how they act – I’m sure the cops visiting with your father was part of understanding both sides. (And American’s can be dumb, especially towards Arabs – wish that wasn’t the case.)
Thank God you don’t live in the states or your poor dad might have been sued. I can understand to a degree about making sure people aren’t taken advantage and that’s why we have litigation, but GOD….I want to slap that “lady” for her stupid behavior. I HATE it when people act like morons and think they are better than others. WHY did she wave your dad through? Lord….reminds me sometimes of the idiots we have over here who try to make trouble for no reason.
First, thank goodness everything is okay. That could have turned in to a potential terrible situation.
Second, AHAHAHAHA…I love that you asked your dad, “Can you turn down your decibels with these white people? They are not like us.” That is one of the funniest things I’ve heard in a long while.
@Mrs.S
But only at home!
hahhaa… the funny part is that I am as loud!
