@pepito I wasn't trying to be prejudice. I was trying to explain pure facts of certain Arabian countries that suddenly evolved from the desert to what they are now. I call it civilized because they weren't labeld as one before, and people still don't label them as one because they are Arabs and thought to be a 3rd world country.

let me get this right ,what you’re saying is that if someone is rich or has a lot of money (rich arabs)than they are “civilized”?so by you’re definition if people are poor or form less prosperous countries that makes them uncivilized.i don’t know about you but that sounds like the most prejudice statement i have read in along time.having a lot of money does not make someone civilized!its how you treat others especially those who are different from you that demonstrates the extent of your “civility”.by your definition the Saudis are the most civilized of the Muslims because they have the most oil(yeah right) and the Turks most uncivilized because they haven’t any(i think the opposite is true, but that’s just me)! So before trying to enlightened the ignorance of others make sure you don’t fall into the same pitfall by becoming prejudice yourself.

@luigi proto Man oh man.. I don't have time to write the entire history of Islam. Listen, Islam is the same as Christianity, there are many different denominations. Wahhabist, I have no friggen clue what they believe. All I know is, I am Sunni. Muslim Sunni is a person that follows the true Islamic religion. It's not a denomination at all. It's following Islam the way it was set during the Prophet's time. After the prophet's death, many denominations spurred with different beliefs. Do I know anything about them? No, because I don't care and I don't follow such added garbage that has no essence and no point.

I understand that arabs as are semetic as are Jews and most peoples of the fertile cresent. However the term anti-semetic is used to describe a person or persons who are anti-jewish. May I ask what is true Islam and what makes it different than say wahhabist and other such groups?

@Luigi Proto Anti-semetic? I don't know what Imam you are talking about. I don't listen to any Islamic preaching because I don't care what they say. I just follow true Islam.. Not what people think it should be. By the way.. Arabs are semetic too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semetic So this Imam is definitely not Arab or even knows what he is talking about and insulting me!

I do have one question, why aren’t there any protests whenever an Imam starts spewing anti-semetic slogans and telling the the congregants to kill Jews but endless protests against Israel and the United States? I’m just curious about this double standard.

There is no such thing as an infidel in the Quran, only people who are oppressive or sinful and then get wiped out by God’s wrath; much like in Judaism and Christianity. The whole good book is pretty much full of those parables of societies and civilizations being wiped away for their sins and transgressions against God. In the Quran, other than fairly descriptive laws towards the issue of inheritance, the only other most consistent theme is the belief in God and the monotheistic views of God.

Those people who don’t say hello to you when you buy your toilet paper are either a) tired as hell after working long shifts for low pay serving what they see as a foreign occupier, or b) have a lot of stress on their minds and simply forgot. Don’t hold it against them. I’ve lived in the states and in England for many years. Plenty of rude people there too.

As said by you: “Maybe some people are prone to making these generalizations, but it would not be an issue if Muslims would stand up for what is right (en masse). Each of those generalizations has a basis in facts. By not taking a stand against religious zealots – you are condoning their acts by default.”

As opposed to say.. blindly following your group of leaders towards two wars and their respective consequences for regional hegemony and lots and lots of reconstruction profits? The difference on this side is that as Muslims (TRUE MUSLIMS) we are taught to not seek violence unless there is no other way and to let live and hope God’s plan works out all alright. Perhaps that may be a little too passive and I myself do wish for more activism, but it’s not the same as say, voting for Bush… twice.

A real Muslim knows that being a Muslim is about understanding, compassion, and above all, the belief that we are all born Muslims despite life’s influences and should all be treated as equals and with mutual respect. Please don’t assume that Osama’s interpretation of Islam (which is called Wahhabism) is the true or even the definitive interpretation.
