They only move left to right
I remember this like it was yesterday. My utter phobia of the car’s windshield wipers when I was 3 – 6 years of age. Why do I remember it so vividly? Simple. Till this day, my mother and father love to rub it in every time we are in the car and it is raining.

I don’t know why I was afraid of windshield wipers. They only move from left to right, and clean the window in rapid motion so you can see while driving. However, they make a squeaky annoying noise that scares the hell out of every child. It’s like me running my nails across a chalk board to annoy my sister.
Thinking about it now, it is kind of scary you know. No wonder I don’t like going out in the rain or any limited visibility weather in the car. The phobia still effects me. Being a kid was really a traumatic experience. Although I think kids are annoying, I feel bad for them because they don’t know any better.
Do you have any childhood phobias that you remember? And do your parents till this day make fun of you cause of it?

Escalators.
But I had a good reason. Ever see those cartoons where the character gets flattened in one and rolls over and over the stairs? Yeah. It got worse when I seen a character die in one on some cheesy 1980s horror show because I could associate it with “reality”.
@Jamie
I am so like that. Till this day, I would jump two steps before it reached the end because I was scared my foot would get caught! I think I watched too much Tom and Jerry!
Also, needles. But I got over that really quick. Yes, I still get made fun of. “Remember when you wouldn’t go on these?” It must be a parent’s job to make sure kids don’t repress phobias.

Yes, phobia is present always but The Best – Fight & Win.
Being abandoned
I once went shopping with my Mom and got lost for a few minutes. It seemed like forever to me, and I felt being abandoned by the whole world. I am terrified of that feeling ever since. And let’s not get into the stuff that comes from being raised overseas. Haha
I never had any phobias myself but I gave my little sister sooo many. I onced twisted this straw into a vaguely key-type shape and pretended I could unlock her skull and like I was looking into her brain from the back of her head. It didn’t help that after she spazzed out and told my dad, he put on his stern voice and said “Nithya, close that up RIGHT NOW! Can’t you see you’ve let almost half of it evaporate away?” Hahahahaha how we laughed! (Then got screamed at by my mum…)And yeah, we don’t let her live these things down.
My phobia was the curly slide, mainly the top of the slide, with the walls. I was afraid that there were monsters at the top of the slide that were waiting for me. Took one of my cousins A LOT of talking to get me up the slide for me to realize that there were no monsters waiting for me.
Squeaky windshield wipers are just annoying… they don’t scare me though. I hate driving when it’s pouring rain (but then who doesn’t?!). Once it was pouring and my windshield wipers weren’t working properly so I couldn’t see at all so I got scared and had to pull over and right when I got out of the car and stepped in the pouring rain, the wiper started working again!
Being alone in the house or anywhere at nightime.
It’s not a phobia as such, but I love the sea, I could live in it… but as soon as I am a little deep in the water (below chest high for example) I panic…. like CRAZY, and have had halucinations as well.
So many people are afraid of being alone or even close to the sea. My mom is afraid of the waters. She doesn’t even go anywhere near the water. On the beach, she is 10 feet away, so no wave would ever come near her and move her away. She had that experience before!
After I almost drowned in the Pacific, I became really afraid of it. I could only go a little ways out into the ocean. I’m still afraid of it, but it’s getting better.
My wife can not swim so she doesn’t go in the ocean at all.
