For those of you who speak more than one language fluently, have you ever been in a situation that you intentionally spoke your native language, or a language that others don’t know, with those who understand it, because you didn’t want certain people to understand you? Or you did it without noticing that you did? Or you did it just someone else can translate?

How many times have I done it? Maybe a million a half times.
Do I feel guilty about it? No. I was born into a world where I had the opportunity to speak more than one language. How I use it, when I use it is my problem. If people don’t like it, as we say in Arabic, “Fokhar yikaser ba3doo.” Or “Yinfil2o!” lol (HATE MAIL COMING!)
Do I talk about people in a different language so they won’t understand me? Hmm, maybe only 50% of the time. Sometimes I just have hard time expressing certain things in English, so I say it in Arabic. So maybe someone who is better than me in Arabic can translate it to English. Kind of it being a circle of thoughts. I just know far too many colloquial Arabic saying or phrases. I am not really that good in translating back and forth between languages. I just suck at it. Sorry, but talking about people, like trashing them. Hmm, I can trash people better in English and sometimes to their face. Ahh.. man. I am showing my bad side. Haha.
Has anyone ever told you off for doing it? Yah, they got the 6th sense and they are pure evil. That’s why they dare tell me to stop it! How rude on their part! BLAH!
I wonder what will happen if I speak some ancient language, or a made up language. I feel like making up my own language! Why can’t I? Let people follow my new lingo!!

This is so me habibty.
“Ya3ame layka 7al habla shu lebse!”

I still do it on occasion just to see how many odd looks I get near the very ‘hick’ areas lol
I don’t look like my fellow countrymen! 20% of my class is from the same country where I come from. But they have got no idea that I understand their language perfectly….even I understand the indian and pakistani language. It’s funny to listen to people(and understand) especially when they know that you have no clue as to what they are saying. Funny when they sound pretty serious but actually talking about nothing!!
The only time it bothers me is if I am in a group of people and they are all speaking a language they know I don’t understand and they do speak English. Or if they are talking about me and I know they are, which is fun if they are speaking Spanish because they don’t expect a white girl to understand them, so I respond to them in Spanish. It’s kind of fun. Otherwise, it doesn’t bother me to hear people speaking another language around me. I love languages and accents so it’s kind of fun to hear.

Languages languages. I love languages!! I should have continued studying Spanish so I can become better at it in Univ. Blah! However, I wrote enough Spanish essays in my days.
That’s enough!
I haven’t done that, but I have text messaged my catty friends about annoying people before. =D

I see no problem with it. Language is about communication & if one language communicates it better, then so be it.
I think it is rude to speak in a foreign language around people who wouldn’t understand. It’s a matter of consideration and self-respecting decency. Just my opinion.
People agree and disagree. I just stick to the language that comes out of my mouth first. lol
Hahahaha right on! Yinfil2o!!!
I miss doing that… but now I’m in Egypt and everyone understands arabic and english, so I cant do it anymore! Back in the day in Ukraine, it was so much fun being able to talk about whatever u want whenever u want, without anyone getting it. It’s only rude when you’re doing it in front of people u know, but if strangers find it rude, then they know there’s something wrong with them. No self confidence, so… YINFLI2O AND YIN7ER2O KAMAN, MA BYHEMNY!!
