Latest flu buzz on what they are teaching the kids
My sister came home from school today with a note warning parents and school aged tweens about the Swine Flue virus. Obviously, I looked over the note and I found nothing in that was not known already. It reminded me a few years ago of the SARS outbreak and how I only saw Asians and selected others wearing breathing mask protectors. I thought they were all doctors getting ready for surgery and walking outside. Then, my sister had to butt in and give her two cents when she realized that I have shown no sign of caring about the situation.
Sister: “You know you can get the swine flu!”
Me: “I don’t go outside or interact with other human beings. I doubt I will get it.”
Sister: “You will get it from the air you are breathing! You may have it now!”
Me: “Should I close all the windows so you won’t get it too? Or should I stop breathing all together?”
Sister: “Yes, you will get it just from breathing, and maybe you should stop breathing. That’s what everyone is saying, it is all in the air!”
This is when I knew this conversation was more of a sister rivalry then about me catching the flu and rubbing it off her.
Me: “And do I care what other human beings say? If I get sick and die, may God have mercy on my soul. Amen.”
Sister: “Good! Die! Amen!”
Yes, I will catch it from the air I am breathing right now. Travelers that are near my house or in the 2 kilometer radius, stay away from me! I will catch it, and it is either you or me buddy! I got sharp teeth, know how to kick, and is in close contact with sharp pointed objects scattered all over the kitchen!
Kids. Schools. Drama. Blah!

This Swine Flu is being over hyped by the media and it is causing some people to panic. I am not too worried about. Naturally I don’t relish the idea of getting sick but I am not going to go through life worrying about what might happen if I did.
@Sapphire
Way way way way way over hyped.
or just another reason for the pharmaceutical companies to cash in on.
from all these conversations with your sister I find her cool lol
@Tamer, 3akkawi
sure.. take her then! lol
Ahaha this made me smile, I was doing play therapy at the hospital today. This five year old got annoyed with the kid hogging the bubble blower so tried telling the nurses “he has swine flu, you have to lock him up!” But on a serious note, it’s not even a proper problem in the UK but the hospital’s usual stockist had actually sold out of surgical masks. What the hell? There’s no need for people to wander round in masks but surgeons DO need them, chill out folks!
@Nithya
I was watching the news earlier, and I think some people wanted UK to not allow flights from Mexico. However, the decision was ruled out. I had a great laugh. I can’t believe people would bother that much. Then, I got some great logical people I know and said, “People die from Malaria and other known epidemics in the thousands per day. Why no one bothers about that?”
I am sad for those that have died, but they are making me nuts with all this. Sure, people should be cautious…wash their hands and that kind of thing, but they are acting like it’s anthrax and it’s coming to all our mailboxes.

Cautious is one thing…paranoia another. I am happy for the public announcements that are out to remind people to wash their hands….ewwww but clearly the reminders are necessary.
The problem with the media is that it exaggerates things.. SARS, bird flu, alert types, etc. so for many, now it’s akin to ‘boy who cried wolf’… could this be the wolf though?
We are coming out of the normal time of year when we have flu circulating in the UK so we don’t really know what size of epidemic there may be in the next couple of months.
