That’s how rumors start

By: Mona

Google Buzz

The other day, I was having a normal boring conversation about a new theater that is opening near our house. I so want it to open soon, so I can go watch new awesome movies in style.

Mom: I heard they are going to open a bar in it.

Me: In a movie theater? Next to a school and in the middle of a residential area? Who told you that nonsense?

Mom: That’s what people are saying.

Me: No! That’s what backwards dumb old Arabs say! They don’t think of anything positive and fun ever in this city! EVER!

Mom: Why do you always say Arabs this and Arabs that? Aren’t you an Arab? Don’t worry. I just made it up.

Me: Yeah right. You never come up with stupid ideas like that. You just hear things and believe them like a blind person believing others that the traffic light is now for pedestrians.

Mom: Shut up. End story.

I got up and left. I didn’t want to continue this nonsense conversation. I wonder how many people in the Arab community of this God for saken town has heard that gibberish. A bar in a huge new theater? What next? A strip club in the mall?

ARABS in Canada! Go back home and see the crap that the Arab world is doing. It makes Canada seem like a conservative little town!

Booze in the movie theatres! That is just weird! You have to have a liquor license to sell booze and movie theatres are family oriented establishments so I can’t see them doing that. Who would want wasted patrons passed in movie threatre seats or giving ushers a hard time anyways? Besides, most movie theatres are part of a chain of theatres where everything is standardized. I wonder what stupid rumours people will come up with next? :???:

Hey Mona :) and yes there are bars in movie theaters now a days lol. Especially in over here in the U.S, you can even google it, the one that I went to is called Hollywood Blvd. Its a movie theater with full service, they have a menu, so you can order food, and they have a Bar in the lobby, with drink specials from margaritas to beer, its the same as any movie theater just bigger comfy chairs and tables.

its a new diff experience thats for sure.

Yah… I see your point. However, I am talking about a famous franchise. A known theater chain in Canada. Adding something different to one of them is a big no no!

It does seem odd for a general theater. Does your Mom read your blog? Just wondering!

Haha I find it funny that people are all het up about this, many film chains in the UK have bars in them ^^ Stricter than most bars though, if you get tipsy and they feel you’ll annoy other movie goers you’d get booted out pretty quickly. It’s funny that your mum decided to randomly make that up off the top of her head though!

Well.. this is just plain and stupid cineplex odion. Why would it have a bar? Or even anything with alcohol. They want drunk teens in the theater?

Ps. You no longer have Cable Internet? Switched to DSL? :P

Sorry, I actually like a bar in a movie theater. I don’t know why. It’s a good place to stop by after the movie and discuss it. Also a good place to meet people.

Not that I can actually afford either a movie or booze. I can dream, can’t I? However, I’d be more likely to get a six pack and sit home and watch a movie w/ the wife where there are only 2 drunken idiots around. :)

This apparently goes on in most Arab households. We make one comment about something non-arab related and all of a sudden it takes a sudden turn into a subject of arab culture and two generations argue about it.

But I have to say, there are some theaters in particular places that now serve beer. And as for the strip club in malls, watch out because someone out there will probably come up with that idea and use it somewhere.
