Online paranoia

By: Mona
.......................

Google Buzz

I think I am suffering from some type of online paranoia. I feel there are certain people watching me, and I don’t know why. Lately, I have been getting more and more local people viewing my blog. It’s kind of freaky. I am a bit worried, why oh why do they find this blog interesting? Hmm.

Should I watch out from stalkers soon? I have gotten a lot of people at the mall and out of no where talking to me saying they have seen me before and think I am this other person, or they think they saw me a while ago, but they wouldn’t tell me where.

Would you follow a blog of someone in your local city and try to find them or know who they are, and want to know them personally?

Were you ever paranoid your self from your blog, that it got to the point that you closed it down?

The only reason I occasionally read your blog is because you are from the same city.

Although I am starting to see how crazy you are and I might stop reading / following you on Twitter.

hmmm well I do read some local blogs but I have no desire to meet the author. I pretty much keep my interest to what I read online. I don’t think I would meet anyone in person…. I think I’d be way too freaked out. hmmm And wow at the previous comment here. lol

yah.. I would be freaked out too meeting another blogger.

The previous comment was pretty low.. I took initiative my self instead of waiting for him to do it. Some people are just plain rude.

haha I understand the paranoia. I changed my blog..3 times? for this exact reason. Though I follow a few of Toronto based blogs, I mostly just follow international ones.

But there are freaks out there and London is a smaller city =P

No worries I don’t live in your city and I have zero interest in meeting you personally. I personally don’t go out my way to read blogs by anybody who lives in my neighbourhood. I read blogs I am interested in not because of the location of the author.

ive had that “i have met you before somewhere” and people would call me a different name, and it happens alot. its world wide amnesia or something its crazy.
or maybe it could be a whole different approach. it just seems were all on zombie auto pilot when were at the mall ya know? its like were bouncing off one another with our antennas and when someone gets caught up in anothers antennae they just want to keep moving. its the ’stop’, go’, ‘paper or platic?’, ‘credit or debit?’ thing. and maybe some people just feel a need to break from that.
but honestly, i don’t feel alone when these random people out in public start upon a conversation. i just pray that for you, you always have good friends around wherever you go. inshallah
    barakat ;)

I like reading your blog, but I guess I don’t count because I live in North Wales :-P

I guess things can get quite spook when you publish personal stuff to the web. Personally I don’t give two f*$%s who reads my blog and I haven’t even opted out of the whois database – I don’t think it’s any worse than having your name and address in a phonebook.

Sometimes people e-mail me and say things like: “Wow, after reading your blog it feels like I know you really well.” What people don’t realise is that I only publish the things I don’t mind others knowing.

When people visit from other places in the world it’s one thing. But when local(ish) people visit I’m of the impression that they think they somehow have the rare oppertunity to take a glimpse into your personal life. The typical vicious scandal mongers and people who like ‘juicy gossip.’ What those people haven’t yet figured out is that what I publish is for them anyway…

I am trying to find some friends in my town. If they have a blog and similar interests, I’d email them about getting together.

That being said,I’d only follow other guys b/c w/ women it freaks them out. This I know. My wife would be freaked by dudes following her too.

You have made it clear you don’t want to meet online friends in RL. I think ppl should respect that.

I am not paranoid that someone will try to meet me from my blog, however, just to be safe I am constantly taking steps to reduce the chance of someone being able to know exactly who I am. (such as changing my name now that I host my own site.) Although now that I think about it perhaps I am paranoid..lol. I do know what you mean though, it can be a crazy place out there. I live in an area that is very conservative (think Dick Cheney types), so my views are not really the norm :-)

I can understand the paranoia. There certainly is the risk of running into (intentionally or not) local people who know you from the blog. But in the vast majority of cases, only good can come of it. I mean, you run the same risk with any creative outlet that you make public.

If you wanna be freaked out even more…I did see you once. In the photography place at Western. I was gonna say hi but thought it’d be kinda weird. Plus I’m shy.

You are kidden me right.. lol yah.. that would have totally freaked me out! Like big time.. I would be like what?

One story, from a while back, out of no where I told her that I am a frequent chatter, and my online nickname is mona1980. She looked at me with wide eyes and said, “I KNOW YOU! I AM XXXX.” I said, “AWWW!! NO FRIGGEN WAY!”

    Now that’s freaky! :P
