Mona is hired! She got a kick ass rebellious official job!
I was officially hired today!
“Mona, you need to seriously be more rebellious,” my mother said as we were arguing about my life while walking to the mall.
I heard that and thought, “Dear God! My mom used the magical word to encourage me!”
After many arguments about my life while going to the mall, walking inside the mall, having some coffee at the mall, she realized that I am not sitting and doing nothing all day. I make money from the Interweb.
Mom said, “how much money are you making, and doing what?”
With a wide grin I said, “I do little contracts here and there. I make enough money to pay my student loans and credit card every month. I pretty much have the same amount of money in the bank as I did after my last pay cheque few months again. It barely decreased.”
“You need to seriously start a business,” she said.
“MOM! That’s the plan, but everything takes time. I am telling you right now, I do not want to work for anyone. I don’t want to be stuck in an office and being ordered around. I like my freedom and to do whatever I want,” I argued back.
She said, “It is the only way to make money anymore. Finding work seems impossible these days. You should start a business, get office space somewhere, and start hiring people.”
I kept arguing, “Takes time. Takes time.”
While walking back home, I said, “You know, the internet is amazing. It is a world of opportunities. My plan is to write a book. Did you know that I took advanced writing courses in University? I just need a couple or so courses, and I would get a writing certificate.”
Mom replied, “So try to find a writing job, and why don’t you write this book about your life?”
I said, “Did you know there are people that make thousands of dollars online a month from having personal websites that just talk about their life?”
She frantically replied, “Then why don’t you have a website about your life! People would love to read it.”
Smiling and waiting for the final approval, “And I should put advertisements, and write a book while I am at it?”
Mom excitedly replied back, “Yes! Why not?”
Bingo! Got her!

“I do have a site online, and that’s how I make money, ” I replied back with a glow on my face.
“Good that you do and you are making money from writing and having your own websites!” she said.
I replied back, “I want to make money off the net, and start something big. I know how to write well, make websites, and I am not limited to anything!”
I guess now she feels a lot better towards me. I GOT A JOB! I WORK FROM HOME! I AM NOT A BUM! However, she doesn’t understand why I can’t find a guy and want to marry. Now that’s another story that does not need to be discussed at the moment.
Advice, Blah Blah, Random Thoughts, They said what?, Whatever!

a girlfriend of mine is an artist and musician and became popular solely through the web…so its definitely possible it takes commitment like any good thing. your going in the right direction…maybe you need a new medium…like book writing, like your doing…
you have a well designed site…maybe you should look into managing web pages
so many options!
I bet it feels great to have your mom starting to understand more about what you are doing
I doubt she will ever figure out the whole guy thing tho. I have been impressed with the amount of comments & following you get with just about every post, keep it up!
Your family seems so cool! My mom just found me on facebook last week (after 3 years!) and I had to reject her friend invite because like a noob she used her (real) full name
Oh Mona. This post put a smile on my face! Your mom is cool
With the internet, and your skills, you can do anything!
I can see why you are doing so well with your site. It’s hysterical – and most importantly “mother approved”
If mother is happy… what more do you need?
Pssht, I think your blog is slightly less cool and much less rebellious now that it’s mother-approved
In all honesty though, I’m very happy for you that you’re starting to gain understanding and support from her. I hope this makes your home life better and improves family relations all around.
I am so glad she understood your work now
Do write the book!
Glad to heard that godd news, mona.
I also have plan to write a book in this year, but I still don’t know what should I do write about? I don’t have any idea at the moment. Huh.
LOOOL! What can i say???
Really nice family it’s kinda funny and i like your posta. btw working at home is so Successful work these days.
With you all the best Mona.
Thanks everyone!
@Nithya
Because my mom knows somewhat what I do online, does not mean that she knows or anyone knows the URL of this site and reads it. It is still gonna stay the same. And now, I have more excuses to rant about everything!
I agree, working in an office from 9 to 5 between 4 walls is boring and suffocating for those who strive freedom and experience the openness of the internet,especially how we read everyday about online success stories..not to mention all the money figures that flow before us but never get to touch,from make money from home deceiving schemes to scam lottery and “relatives lost in plance crash” emails…I could swear I have won Billions of dollars from worldwide companies (yahoo,google,Shell,Honda,Microsoft…the list is endless!)
However with all that said, and the dedication..skills..and already large audience you got,you have to find the tiny key the unlocks your internet use into real money, real cash, and thats the biggest challenge of all.
Everybody and their mother “and grandmother” are writing ebooks today,will your ebook make it big and push you up along the elite known people of the internet? do you have a “niche” or a specific direction that can make real cash for you?
I have my own niche,and general online money making ideas “I once told you about them”..but non of them actually made it to real cash!
gratz on how your mom now sees you in a totally different way!
@Led Zeppelin
I wouldn’t write a book about being an Arab or leaning towards my lifstyle. That’s the job of this blog of mine. If I do write something, it will be totally modern and portraying a fictional life of a random character out there. Just like those books that sell millions of copies and such!
@Mona
then I look forward to the next gen harry potter!
@Led Zeppelin
hahhaha.. no no.. I am not a fantasy writer..
OMG! I loved this post…LOL.Good luck in your future endeavours. Just so you’d know, I might hire you for your artistic talents if I decide to return to blogging again. Reason I stopped was simply cz I hated the standard blogspot designs myself, but I don’t have the financial capabilities to hire anyone right now (no credit cards, paypal, and even if I did… with a debt on my neck, can’t afford the luxury anyway)….So best of luck!
@Amina H.
Use Wordpress.. use wordpress and you will never look back.
Haha mabrook. This post is so awesome – and it’s totally rockin news that your mom finally acknowledges the work you do in your blog office (love that name by the way lol)
Yep yep time to put that mantra of rebelling against them all into full gear.
Congrats
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW! Your mom is REALLY COOL indeed!!! moms generally have harder times getting their girls NOT have 9 to 6 pm job. I don’t have one at the moment but I have to pretend I do. Cause if my mom figured out she’d be going NUTS
))
Mabrook!
does that mean your site is going to lose the adult rating? That will be big loss!
@Abdullah
no.. it will increase 10 folds just for the likes of you.
hey, if it means you get paid just for people reading your blog, then ill read it everyday, its good to help a fellow sister out, and lol really i hope your book is really goood, if i ever see it maybe i might buy it.
inshallah.
@jazzy
Well yah.. reading my blog every day would help because the ads counts the number of impressions. However, clicking on the ads would double help me! lol
As for the book, my plan is to write out free stories firt, to just get the audience interested. Overtime, it would teach me to be a better writer and then start going outside of the realm of the internet.
I haven’t really smiled or laughed all day but when I saw the mother approved blog stamp I actualled laughed outloud here at work…yes reading your blog while Uncle Sam pays me. But it’s all good. :^)
@Janet
Heheheh.. I knew the stamp I made made this post a little bit funnier!
@Mona
I was sooo happy to hear that you are almost there to get your writing certificate. Get it girl, because I know you can do it, and that you will do well. You really have a talent in writing.
Go ahead and be more rebellious!
Ha ha! Good for you! I am going to hire you as my consultant. I need to learn how to make more money writing too….
@Mona
ummmm….what are you trying to say?
@Abdullah
