Why we are always angry?

By: Mona
.......................

A lot of people in the past have asked me why am I always angry? Why am I always defensive? It really has nothing to do with my personality or anything. I kind of picked it up from other Arabs around me. Kind of thing that effects you from your culture and you just cannot help it.

Yes, us Arabs tend to get a bit overly angry at times. We are always triggered by the smallest things in life, and we cannot for the life of us learn to control our anger. We are just hot blooded people.

But, why?

You see, most of us Arabs came from ruined countries, wars, messed up political systems, and totalitarian states. So, Arabs that leave those countries have a reason to, but you cannot change their behaviour. So there is always something inside of them that is about to burst out!

If I ever meet a laid back Arab, I would say, “My brotha from another motha! What did you put in that sheesha!? Ah?”

[source]

By the way, I don’t smoke anything, and I never in my life tried smoking sheesha. Maybe that’s my problem? :P

    Dont start smoking sheesha.

It makes you lazy and depressed. And if you’re unlucky, you can get schizofrenia.

Listen… your comments have been really annoying me lately. Stick to the topic. Also, the sheesha part was a joke and to make fun of others. I do it as a sarcastic end note. I would never smoke. I am a health conscious person!

Smoking Nariglah is bad for your health, one puff is equivalent to pack of cigarettes, but the flavours and good smell make it hard to resist. P.S. Don’t start smoking… its addictive and you’ll hate it!!! I’ve been sober from it for more than 6 months.

    Anyways: @Mona

Arabs get angry easily perhaps because of the climate they come from if you compare accents of the gulf and war torn countries with the sham accent you will find its softer and more gentle. The climate plays a big role in all this, as well as some psychology studies compare between two regions and find war torn people are more aggressive and rougher in the way the interact.

For instance, psychological studies indicate the behaviour of Vietnamese is more rougher and aggressive and than other Asians (i.e. some chinese, taiwanese, etc) and are more prone to committing violent acts in a foreign country because of the psychological impacts of the Vietnam war, with comparison to Hong Kong citizens or other Asian nations whom have not suffered war. I realised this same cognitive behaviour theory applies to Arab nations who have suffered war and those who have not as well as those who come from a hot climate tend to be rougher than Arabs coming from countries with a colder climate.

If you want to meet a laid back arab… come and meet my dad, it’s scary stuff. like he can calm you down in like 2 seconds without raising his voice. He never raised his voice to anyone. I’m serious, I am tempted to see if he’s actually arab. Considering I am like a bit emotional mess and I get angry and excited very easily.

From my observation, I see alot of Moroccan and Algerian whom are agressive most of the time. For some reason, the ladies complain ALOT. But when I mix with the Egyptians and Palestinians…they are completely opposite…they are much softer.

Very interesting about the climate effects on personality. Since I live in the Northern Hemisphere and I am cold half the year, then I should be a very cold hearted person! :P

LOL!!! You have a warm heart. Compare between the Sham Arab accent (Palestine, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon) and Arabs from the Gulf (Saudis, Kuwaitis, Emiratis… etc) where its mostly desert and you’ll see the difference… ask your mother what she thinks. The Sham region are gentle and their accent reflects the climate they come from and their personalities. The Khaleeji region is mostly desert, people feel so dizzy after they leave an air conditioned room and they wanna faint… they are more aggressive, argumentative and rougher in the communication… even if they’re the “cold Arabs” you can still pick it up in their accents. My parents hate the Iraqi accent and say its way too rough like the khaleeji accent… and they adore the Syrian/Lebanese/Palestinian/Egyptian accents. LOL!!! You should write a post on Arabic accents and how they can lead to misunderstandings and misconceptions psychologically among Arabs or people in the Arab World… hehe I love to read it

All I can say Mona is that I’m not an Arab but I’m always angry. Why? Because people in general just piss me off…lol I suppose you could blame it on my heritage which is a combination of Slovak, German and Irish but I’m just going with the fact that there are too many idiots in the world and I’m easily annoyed.

Just like Mona said, we’re hot blooded…..Whats else can I say, you pretty said everything Mona. The other day me and friends we’re talking about on weither or not we want to marry Palestinians (we’re all Palestinians) so we came to the conclusion that Lebanese and Syrian girls are generally much softer than Palestinians girls. Regardless of that, we all agreed that we want to marry palestinians.

I would like to hear your opinion on that Mona, do you think pali girls are a bit too aggressive?

We do get angry very easily. I guess it’s because we are always the ones that are getting kicked around. Or at least the ones that many countries don’t give a damn about hurting.

I always thought that it was Latins who were hot-tempered! But, I tend to agree with you. I have several friends who are Arabic – from Lebanon, Egypt and Morocco and although I wouldn’t say they are necessarily angry all the time I would say that they are “passionate” in expressing their opinion.

In general, a lot of Arabic people are displaced from their homes for various reasons and may feel some resentment about this. Trying to maintain a semblance of their culture living in a foreign country when they are expected to become assimilated probably causes many to display anger. While a lot of them may have “chosen” to move to Canada (where I live) there are many who are here not by choice – who can blame them for being angry?

Anger is a very powerful emotion. It can lead you to the evilest of deeds if you doesn’t control it. You know what, I had similar problems as yours and this is what I do. Find the answer on what makes you angry and remove those causes from your life. Pray regularly and always remember God! Exercise more often! Learn to accept “things” positively and try to smile more often no matter what befalls you. I think Sheesha is not the solutions! Just my 2cents and I’m not a perfect person. Just wanna share something with you. Don’t forget to put a smile on your face today ok.
