Open your minds to the possibilities
By: Mona
.......................
Yesterday on Twitter, I asked my fellow lovely adorable friends “What will happen to the world if everyone was open minded?” I got some great answers! However, one person @leeroyglinchy wanted to know my opinion instead by asking me, “what’s my definition of open mindedness?”
I thought long and hard, and I so wanted to come up with a well thought of response, then I decided that I rather sum it up to this:

Being open minded: Willingness to listen to others, engage in various thought provoking conversations, and explore other options in life that satisfy you in the end.
That’s it. Simple as A B C.

Well, don’t everyone comment at once!
Amen!
I was going to go to the gym tonight but then I remembered it was mischief night so I didn’t go because I was worried my car might get egged by Islamofascists. So now I’m bored! I guess I’ll try to think up some ways I’m open minded and comment here later!
not everybody can be open minded and receptive. It’s often the culture that clouds the mind and keeps it from opening up.
@Craig
Oh wow! Where do you live?
@Abdullah
Los Angeles! I was trying to be open minded and not assume it would be the snotty neighborhood kids doing it!
@Craig
I hope you are fine there.
There’s nothing to do with open mindedness in your case. A bit of patience should work well.
@Abdullah
I was trying to be funny. There are a lot of Muslims in LA but I’ve yet to meet an Islamofascist
And yes, I’m doing fine! I don’t know how familiar you are with Halloween but the night before is when kids (in the US at least) go out and engage in unrestrained juvenile delinquency! Don’t tell anyone, but I egged a car or two in my time too! Got a cop once and he chased my buddy and I all the way back to his house and then gave his mom a big lecture
Finally an Arabian who lives in the west gives a good answer to being open mind, i hope these seculars living in the arab world would read your definition because when they speak of being open mind all the time they start by attacking islamic teaching or mocking them
@Craig
about being open minded…here in Britain its going back again. There’s been a rise of the extreme right who are very hateful of muslims. Even fascist groups are being set up like “stop Islamisation of Europe” to harm the muslims!
@Ahmad Hamdan
Really? That’s definitely not being open minded by any means. Oh well!
being open minded is being able 2 explore in all things
(mona)when i first glanced at that pic it looked like u were giving the finger lol
@Charlie Hayse
I thought she was trying to stick a nerd label on my forehead
@Abdullah
I was in London about a year back for on vacation. I was really surprised how many Muslims there are in London! I was especially surprised by how many women had their hair covered! I think I’d have to look pretty hard to find a woman in hijab around here where I live. I obviously can’t comment about British society after just a short vacation there, but just based on what I could observe it seems quite different on ethnic/religious/immigration issues.
@Charlie Hayse
That’s not my picture! I got it from some website.
@ Craig…
I’m a native Londoner.
London seems to me to be a very diverse city. Its so big that people tend to pretty much do what they like without too much trouble. its usually the smaller cities in the UK that have problems.
Where I live we happily have orthodox jews and conservative muslim sliving side by side.
Ive been out in hijab a few times (and even in niqab for an experiment) and it had been fine. I went to central in niqab and everyone seemed fine with it.
Then you can go around wearing whatever you want pretty much.
When i go to work every morning, I see people in the usual, suits, smart casual etc, ive also seen people in abayas and shaylas and brothers in kufis with suits etc. Ive seen jews observign their othrodox dress to work also. Its seems to be one of the most chilled out places when it comes to different cultures.
I’ve heard (not experienced) that in USA things are not as flexible in this way.
Open mindedness is seeing with eyes unclouded by scrutiny.
It is the lover who kisses the scar of his woman’s cheek.
It is to hear with an open heart and find the good and filter out the bad, focusing only on the positive, and correcting, without brooding, on what is negative.
What is open leads to new horizons, and what is closed leads to a hurt head when you bump it.
@Craig lol
@Mona oh well dont i look stupit now lol
@Mahsa
Do you happen to live around Stamford hill?
@Craig
The people back from my country actually practice religion more than they used to do in the country!!
@Mahsa
I’ve heard (not experienced) that in USA things are not as flexible in this way.
It probably depends what part of the US you are talking about! We have several cities that I’d say are as diverse as London, and they are all a completely different mix! Here in LA I think the largest groups are Latino, white, black, east asian (mostly chinese) in that order. That’s just a guess by the way! I think we have about a million Muslims in Los Angeles, but over half of them are Iranian and Iranians seem very secular. We have had a lot of racial problems in LA over the years… like the LA riots in 1992, and the Watts riots before that (and before I was born!) but that hasn’t involved Muslims. I’d say the biggest tensions now in LA are between Latinos and blacks. But in general I think things are improving from an all time low about 15 years ago. That’s the only reason I still live here, so I have to belive things are getting better right?
@Mona
It almost looks like you.
@Abdullah
I thought it was Mona too! Only because it’s so blurry though
No trick-or-treaters here yet! And I even turned on the porch light! This is the first year in forever that I haven’t been dodging the little buggers, and now they don’t show up!
@Craig @Abdullah
I see it now why you guys got confused.. hehehe..
@Mona
@ Abdullah…
Nope – I live in North London.
@ Craig…
the Iranians tend to be quite similar here too tbh but there are not that many of them and most of the ones in London tend to live in Kensington. It’s a very rich area with not many problems tbh.
We used to have big Indian and Pakistani problems here but they have fizzled out – especially since the BNP has become so strong. Now its more non-racists vs racists reguardless of colour.
@Mahsa
.
oh wow…I’m in southgate, Barnet
