I got this very cute email this afternoon regarding my post from two days ago. I found the email to be really funny actually. I like straight to the point girls, and I even got a potential sister-in-law!

I answered her that I am not interested, but the physical attributes are really nice now that I think of it! Meoow! :kiss: As for hooking me up people, I can find someone my self! As long as the guy is daring enough to come up to me and say, “Yo, Rebellious Arab Girl, I am not a typical Arab, and I don’t like Arab’s backwards mentality!!” Then I would be all over him!

I don’t think I ever liked highschool and even a majority of my University courses. I blame my dislike to wierdo teachers that I can never remember their names, and the fact that listening to a boring teacher was not a very memorable experience.

For those of you who don’t know, I have a brother that is 4.5 years my senior, and I have a little sister that is half my age. I call her the mistake! Totally spread out freaky family I tell ya! Not so typical Arab! Anyways, this year, she just started highschool. A totally different world in her mindset. However, to me it was a nightmare. I hated highschool. I hated everything about it. I just completely blanked it out from my memory when I finished it. Unfortunately, my sister is attending now the same highschool I graduated from, and oh my oh my, she keeps reiterating the same thing over and over: MONA, DID YOU HAVE THIS TEACHER?

Every single day she asks me the same questions, and I answer her the same thing, I don’t remember teacher’s names! Maybe if I saw a picture then I can recall the semester of boredom. Otherwise, I could care less who they were. And if they aren’t Science, Math, or English teachers, then don’t think I would ever remember! To me, highschool was a very dark time in my life. It was a time where I spent a majority of it staring frantically at gorgeous guys, and also sitting in the last row staring at the clock above the door second by second till the bell rang.

I hated highschool. I aced it, but I hated it.

I need to seriously stop talking like a teenager and grow up. I also hated a majority of my University courses. And if the course didn’t require attendance, I didn’t go to it! All the lecture notes or slides were online. Why did I need to go to class in order for someone to read off the slides?

Anyways, there is a real reason why I hated highschool. In my last year of highschool, more and more Arabs started attending my school, and they all pissed me off. When one Arab knew you, the entire Arab population knew you and talked shit about you. It seems that Arabs can only survive their day by gossiping or else they will die! That’s why I really hated my highschool.

In conclusion, my sister is driving me crazy, but now, I don’t mind helping her with her homework. She is at a more advanced level that I can remember all the stuff she is taking now. Oh plant sciences! It is truly boring learning the process of photosynthesis. When will she get to more interesting stuff like human physiology!

I am not that young! I keep getting the ladies at work calling me hon! Or dear! And asking if I still live at home! OMG! Yah, welcome to my life now. I work with all grownups. The only ones that look young, because they are young, are the technical people. Which is me and someone else! The rest of the office are middle aged or almost retirement age ladies. Some even got grand kids! I still need someone to take care of me. You think I do my own laundry?

Good thing I realized from the beginning that I cannot converse with them. I don’t even converse much with anyone because I am so busy all day long to do that. Anyways, I am single. I don’t wear the wedding ring that symbolizes the eternal attachment to some lunatic guy who will accept such a crazy girl like me. And worse, I look like a 20 or 21 year old!

Bohoo! I want to grow up! I know I will not get wrinkles till I am 50 like my mom, unlike such fair skinned people who get wrinkles when they are 30. Jeez! Also, I will not start using the phrase, “25 years ago I graduated from University” till much later in life, but dammit!!!! I am 28, almost 29 years old! I know I cannot engage in a conversation about a husband, kids, mortgage, house expenses, but I can talk about … hmm … I can talk about … hmm.. ok I give up. To be normal I got to get married ASAP. Where can I find such a loser Arab guy who will accept me working 8.5 hours a day, and getting home dead tired to do anything else? Who wants to do the chores!!

Ahh.. I feel like I am soon going to have to grow up to fit in into this grownup society. Maybe I will think about this blog post again when I am 30. Let me enjoy the rest of my 20′s for now!

A lot of people in the past have asked me why am I always angry? Why am I always defensive? It really has nothing to do with my personality or anything. I kind of picked it up from other Arabs around me. Kind of thing that effects you from your culture and you just cannot help it.

Yes, us Arabs tend to get a bit overly angry at times. We are always triggered by the smallest things in life, and we cannot for the life of us learn to control our anger. We are just hot blooded people.

But, why?

You see, most of us Arabs came from ruined countries, wars, messed up political systems, and totalitarian states. So, Arabs that leave those countries have a reason to, but you cannot change their behaviour. So there is always something inside of them that is about to burst out!

If I ever meet a laid back Arab, I would say, “My brotha from another motha! What did you put in that sheesha!? Ah?”

By the way, I don’t smoke anything, and I never in my life tried smoking sheesha. Maybe that’s my problem?

Let me start by saying that I am truly overwhelmed right now, and I am trying so hard to organize my daily life. I never had a job like this where I am completely busy for 8.5 hours a day. I even eat at my desk, because I am always thinking! No wonder computer programmers’ keyboards are always filled with tiny chips and bread crumbs.

For those who are still wondering and never read the About Me page to know, I am a Computer Science graduate, and I am a programmer! I code stuff. Complicated stuff. Stuff that makes your experience using an application much easier. I make things user friendly. Aren’t I nice? I demand a cookie for being a girly-girly selfless geek!

Anyways, this constant thinking at work makes me extremely tired every day, and has been hindering my blogging time! I am so behind, and I don’t want to disappoint anyone with my lack of daily updates. I am going to start using those to-do task tool thingies that some other geek fellows created, and start being an organized Rebellious Arab Girl.

Understanding my Culture

I have gotten some great e-mails the past couple of days from people asking very good questions that I never addressed. So, what if you are a non-Arab and want to get acquainted with the Arab culture? How do you go about doing that? What do you need to know?

First off, let me introduce you to an Arab. Let me find one first! Wait, that’s me!!

1. I am 100% Arab. I speak Arabic. I was raised by an Arab family, and brought up in a conservative culture.

There is the magic word, conservative.

2. Not all Arabs are Muslims. Only around 80% – 85% of Arabic speaking people are Muslims. The rest are Christians, Jews, or other. Although different religions, but same culture and attitude towards life and family.

3. Arabs are very family oriented. They respect their family a lot, even distant cousins that they barely know.

4. Arabs have utter respect to their elders. Even if someone is a year older, they give them all the respect they deserve.

5. Arabs love to brag about their kids or anyone in their family that has excelled in “anything.”

Don’t think that I am using the word “anything” loosely here. I mean it, anything!

6. Arabs come in all shades of human skin color. The reason for that because the Arab world was under various European and Turkish rule. Also, the Arab world extends two continents with different climates. However, the original Arabs have a dark shade of olive skin or tan and dark eyes.

7. Not all Arabs wear turbans and live in tents in the desert. Who ever still does that are nomads living in the Arabian desert or other desert areas in the Arab world. The modern Arab world has malls and air conditioning, and even pizza delivery!

8. Arabs love their food! Oh the good tasty food! If you don’t feed us a good filling meal, we will mock you to eternity! So start learning to cook now! Hehehe!

Those are some of the positives I think that portray us Arabs as a great civilization. There are obviously a lot more that maybe my daily readers can point out in more detail in the comments area. However, point 3 and 4 above are the most important ones. That’s what makes our civilization so great!
