I live in a small town
With a population of over 350,000 people, the odds of seeing people that you knew in the past seems to be slim to none. However, with my luck, why do I have to see people I do not like, or to be more precise, people I hate to death! Why me? Why do I get to see them!
Akh, today, I went to a clothing outlet store, and at the checkout, I saw her and her kids in the line. I was ahead of her in the line. As I was waiting, I twisted my head around, and I absolutely had no intention of looking at people, or even caring whose around me. I fidget a lot, and I can never get my self to stand still and just look in front of me. No, no, no. Bad me!
So I looked back and saw her. I murmured under my breath and said, “Of all people. Of all the shitty people I knew in my life, why did I have to see her fugly face?”
She was the second reason I quit my job last year. I hated her. I could not believe that people like her exist in this world. They are manipulative people who use their power for their own personal gains. Those people I hate. I despise people like that or even think that way.
I just remembered someone else who wanted to use me for his own personal gains. I don’t know what he was thinking, but I think now he understands that people like me work for pleasure and self recognition. Regardless of the amount of money, we do not like to be used to make someone else look better than us in life.
Anyways, I wanted to spit on her when I saw her. I wanted to go up to her and tell her that she won’t have a sweet run in life for too long. Not everyone out there is stupid and accepts people like her to take charge! Being a leader is more than that.
Being a leader is all about respect and honesty. Not only towards others. Oh no! First, you have to learn to respect your self. Secondly, you to be honest with your self. I think the problem with many leaders that they don’t feel guilt or care about people around them. They are full of deception and are unethical when dealing with people. They think that everyone else is beneath them, and are just dirty heartless “prawns” or “bottom dwellers” in their playground.
When you are respectful and honest with your self, then people will inevitably recognize that trait in you and respect you for who you are. You cannot be a sneaky fake person forever. People are not blind and dumb, and will not put up with that shit.
Gosh, she really ruined my day. I hope I never see people like her that I despise ever again!

Well at least you didn’t react towards her. People who indulge in inflicting harm on others will suffer one way or another. Patience is the key, the one day out of the blues you see them really struggling and no one is there to help because all they cared about was using people. Anyways, its difficult to hide in a small town. I live in a country with a population of under 400,000 so everyone knows everyone and you know how Arabs and Muslims gossip about everyone so I keep a low profile and stay in the shade and avoid the limelight. I bet it would work for you. Stay cool hun
Leadership is all about motivating and inspiring people, providing a vision and a purpose that people can buy into. It is about instilling a passion that will carry people the extra mile to achieve a goal.
Yes, all this can only be achieved through respect and honesty towards oneself and others.
Oussama, I agree with you! In the Marines we used to say there are two kinds of leadership” Leadership by example and leadership by kicking people in the ass.
Unfortunately, in the private sector a lot of people seem to get themselves put in leadership positions by shameless self-promotion

Oh God! I hate these kind of people. i think the behaviour transcends any culture and its just some in particular people. The best remedy I find is to make them question their own dispicable existence byt refusing to show them that they affect you. When they begin to doubt their own “powers” of affecting people they have a kind of breakdown because its all that they know.

Well, a few examples would be:
1) Somebody is a team leader while being a working programmer at the same time, and they are on the phone constantly with people at corporate headquarters. And they imply that everything really good that their team has done was done by them. And imply that everything bad that was done by the team was done by others. And they let people go on thinking that, no matter how blatantly untrue it is.
2) Somebody who is constantly in the bosses office, stroking his/her ego. Inviting the boss out to lunch. Always remembering the birthdays of the boss’s kids, boss’s wedding anniversary, etc (I mean, who does that!? Seriously!?) and otherwise brown-nosing the boss(es).
3) Somebody who gives their subordinates poor reviews and recommends them for small bonuses for the sole reason of inflating their own sense of self-importance, and exaggerating the amount of “aggravation” they have to put up with on the job. Same person is likely to give their cronies overly good reviews and put them in for huge bonuses.
4)Somebody who orders their subordinates to do things a certain way despite their objections, and then when it turns out their way was a disaster they point the finger at the subordinates for doing it wrong rather than accepting responsibility for their poor decision making.
And so on! I’ve only seen this at big companies. Small companies, everyone knows what everyone else is up to and this shit just won’t fly! At least at the small companies I’ve worked at! Everyone knows who is wasting oxygen and who is getting the bills paid.
Umm, no. I don’t give those shitty type of people a chance to talk to me or give them the time of day. Not worth it!

Me too! I’ve even forced showdowns when people have pulled these stunts with me. One good thing about being a software developer at a software company is that when push comes to shove they’d rather lose a non-technical manager than a key programmer. Usually!
