Overbearing religious child
I am a stereotypical, hypocritical, overbearing religious child.
Does that make sense at all?
That’s a snippet of an email I got today from some chick who had a serious problem with me dissing slutty Arab girls. In reality, she had a problem with me having an opinion. I don’t understand this, if I talk about anything religious, then overly religious people send me hate mail and swear left and right at me. By the way, if you are so religious, then why the hell you go on the internet and throw derogatory statements at some anonymous girl from Canada? And if I write anything about the nastiness that some people do, I get hate mail from people that don’t like it, and call me religious or pretending to be one.
Seriously, I don’t get it, what is wrong with you people? You don’t like what I have to say, then go somewhere else that has some closed minded mass opinionated topics.
By the way, stick and stones may break my bones, but I still don’t give a shit!
What amazed me that someone called me a hypocritical overbearing religious child. Fine, call me overbearing, and call me a child. But religious and before that calling me hypocritical? Makes no sense, but I wouldn’t call my self religious at all. I call my self neutral. I am not a crazy religious fanatic or anything. At the same time, I am not anti-religious or “rebellious” against religion. However, how can you explain that to people that come to your site from another site or search engine, and then stay on your site for maximum 10 minutes, and formulate an end-all be-all opinion about you?
I know many bloggers out there that have the same problems as me. That’s why I am writing this post. This is what happens when you have a blog for so long. You can’t even protect what you have written anymore, and some topics are so old that you cannot remember what you wrote or why you wrote them. I disabled comments from posts over 7 days old, and have a re-captcha for protection against spam, but how can I protect or avoid those lurkers?
I have a new plan for the next year, and it will annoy the hell out of everyone, but you know what, in the end of the day, this blog is just an online diary of my self. It contains my opinions about life in general, and that’s it.
Finally, think of if this way: if I tell you that your shirt is ugly, then go ask a million other people if they think so to, but don’t take my word on it. It is just my stereotypical, hypocritical, and overbearing opinion of your hideous shirt.
Angry, Blah Blah, Confused, Idiots, Ranting as usual!, Religion, They said what?, Whatever!

Rule number one to maintaining a personal blog: “write like no one is reading!”
I will never understand why people will take the time to send emails and comments like that. Seriously, why bother?
I don’t think I would call you religious either (just based on what I read here), but you are certainly respectful of those who are.
Don’t worry your thoughts are amazing! You’re too blunt at times,but your observations are spot on. I don’t get why these people get angry at what you say, too defensive. They know its true, so they try to turn it around. I would’nt lie If it were my country being critized I would of gotten offended even though I know its true.
lol besides, if you were religious you would never be overbearing
@Erica
I never bother to email… like ever. If I don’t like what someone wrote on their blogs, I don’t comment or bother. It’s all their opinions and I have to respect their different views.
@Jasmine
I know!! People get angry with what I write, but they make no sense when they try to attack me. I find that they keep contradicting what they are writing sentence after sentence.
It’s super annoying when people don’t even try to explain what it is that you said which upset them before they go psycho on you in emails. Usually means they are irrational, in my opinion, because no matter how much you disagree with somebody it can usually at least be discussed without resorting to insults. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how nice people were in emails when they came across like total jerks on the blogs. And the opposite has happened a couple times too. Oh well.
I don’t find you hypocritical, Mona. Your views are your views and you stand strong and firm by them. That’s the whole purpose of your blog. It has a stance for being solid and truthful and some people can’t justify their opinions and they think they’re always right when that is not the case. Slutty Arab girls? So what? I mean yeah your opinions are valid and no one needs to diss you for them because you justify them with hard core evidence… Some people just need to live their lives by an appealing lie which means NOTHING.
You touch a nerve with what you write, whether it is good or bad you elicit an emotion and question sensibilities. I personally don’t like everything you write, so i bite my tongue and lip and move on. Having said this I enjoy your blog for exactly this reason, we don’t agree which makes life so much more interesting. So you write whatever you want to and if we don’t like it there are millions of other blogs.
Keep qestioning our sensibilities, don’t ever stop.
Mona I dont think this girl has read many of youre posts. Very strange. The whole purpose of youre site is to question religious/socio-cultural trends and norms within the muslim world. What else did she say in the email? Im curious. You know, this girl raises a good point though, being free of muslim cultural restraints doesnt mean youre free from western ones. x
Why isnt anyone saying anything im in the mood for a debate
@Mona
That’s why I was never able to make my own blog!!
@Mais
Well, the email was pretty much that only. She said, “don’t take this the wrong way, …. and that blurb I posted.” That’s about it.
Also, not many people want to debate anymore. I think I banned, told off enough people, and pissed the rest off enough that they don’t like coming here!
If you want to argue or write a topic Mais to argue about, then send it my way. I am accepting guest posts.
@Abdullah
Tsk tsk.. you need to be more daring!
@Mais
Everyone’s happy here(except for a few frowns)!
@Abdullah
Got a question for ya, how are your exams going? I know you were busy studying.. you did well?
I just thought of a good topic to get everyone debating ill email u when I finish my essay! =/ xx
@Mais
I am waiting for it!!
Stirring up a bit of dissidence is awesome and more power to you for being able to do it in a sober manner. Your sharp tongue and hard mind is something these ‘religious’ folks want a piece of, and although their religion might say they are steering you on the right path, all they seem to do is despise what is wise, and to me their puritanical streak is bright like a fluorescent light bulb, annoyingly bright and gives one a headache every time its on.
You Rock!!!
I think that those who do not allow others to comment are arrogant and don’t want to know what others think of what they say. Even though you may not like what others have to say, you at least know that there are differences in opinion and interpretation to what you say.
What I find more annoying is when you think that you wrote something and you never know how people interpret what you say because you don’t listen to what they have to say.
@Christopher (AKA: CaJoh)
Me don’t listen? Are you talking to me? Because my golly! I let people comment and I reply back. I am just human, and I disagree if I don’t like something. I don’t have to “listen” to everything people say. Do you?
I don’t think it matters what you write. This is what happens – someone is having a bad day, year, whatever – they come to your site and see in big letters Rebellious Arab Girl, and automatically connect that with you being anti-religion, a little slutty, etc. The person who sent the email probably didn’t even finish one post.
Some people just like to complain – she should start a blog.
Right…
