Who is right?

By: Mona
.......................

I came to the conclusion that no one is right. There, I said it. You are not right. I am not right. No one is right. So where did the basis of the right answer come from?

I cannot come up with the right answers because I am a human being basing every single word that comes out of my mouth as an opinion. I don’t know what is right. Why do you think you know? How do you know? Why do you think then you are right and I am wrong? Am I really wrong? Or my opinion just didn’t match yours and you cannot accept the difference?

One day, I looked above at the starry sky and made a wish. A Muna.. A longed for the truth. I didn’t want to live my life thinking he is right and she is right. If I did continue thinking that, then what is the point of life? Why should I follow someone’s right when I can come up with one too and think of all the other possibilities never mentioned?

I was bestowed with this burden of over thinking. I cannot stop it and for the life of me, and I cannot come up with a reason to stop thinking and let things be. I was just born this way. Deep down inside of me, I feel that I was born for a reason. I wasn’t born to just accept any answer but come up with my very own.

Try it. Come up with your own answers. If you do, then someone else’s obscure thinking won’t seem so bad.

By the way, since I am an Arab and I ended up living in the Western world, it does not mean that the reason I have a different opinion because I live here. I was just born this way. Since I was little, I was stubborn as a goat who hated even walking behind someone. This is me; accept it or leave it.

i’m definitely right. i guess you didn’t get memo

great post, though. not enough independent thinking, but i guess anyone who regularly reads this blog doesn’t need to reaffirm that notion.

You have an inquisitive spirit and there is nothing wrong with that. Everybody has their own opinions and so often many people want to insist that they are right, or someone else is right. It takes determination to find your own answers and not to take someone’s opinion as your own without self examination.

You really hit the nail on the head. Right or wrong is dependent on the perspective of the individual concerned. The life they lead up to the point they were confronted with whatever point of view it may be will dictate how that person accepts, feels about, or rejects that point of view. I guess you could even say it is some type of spiritual maturity if you will. Look at religion. There are thousands out there. Each with people that swear by what they preach. Who is right or wrong? A religion just like any other idea will either appeal or repel you depending on the life you have lead up to that point. ;o) Great post! Take care.

I think the questions you’re asking are very important, and I’m sure it’s a point at which many great thinkers began their quest for higher understanding. The subject of “Right vs Wrong” is obviously one of much debate. And you’re absolutely right that many times, almost all the time, people base their decisions on opinions. Opinions are the direct result of an individual’s personality. An individual’s personality is the direct result of an intimate combination of that individuals genetic makeup along with his or her life experiences. So it’s no surprise that a diversity of opinions is what we see around us. And saying that one opinion is more correct than another is like saying that an individual’s personality is more correct than another, which is absurd since personalities stem from things over which we have no control. Also, such a conclusion would beg the question, “more correct according to whom?”, and were back where we started. But, all this being said, I think that there are in fact right and wrong answers. The trick here is not to base one’s answer on personal opinion, but to base them on logic. Good logic should leave no room for question. And if someone can reach an answer to whether something is right or wrong using only good logic, then their conclusion should be one that no one can argue with (unless of course the person arguing is just arguing based on opinion and not logic). So what I’m saying is opinions are individual, but logic is universal. Unfortunately hardly anyone goes about using logic to answer questions, namely because it’s much easier to just make up an opinion rather than go through the tedious process of answering questions from the basic postulates of logical thinking. And another thing that is so beautiful about thinking logically is that you don’t take things personally. So if someone comes along with better logic than you, you should feel like a more accurate truth has been reached because your loyalties are not to an individual’s answer, but rather to a universal truth. In the interest of not taking too much space, I’ll stop here. Great job asking the important questions, hope this helps. Good luck!

    Cool blog,

My humble opinion is that nobody has the absolute truth in any issue anyway but i think the best way to define right is by “actions that allow everyone in the society to have pleasure the way they see fit without inflicting pain on others”

I think that defines the right ideas and actions.
