Old posts awakening due to uncontrolled emotions
I know this one: Trouble 1, and this one: Trouble 2, and maybe this one: Trouble 3 are continually causing havoc. People want to comment so bad but end up emailing me instead. It has been going on for months and I have been ignoring these emails for a reason. However, I have been noticing a trend in the way Arabs are perceiving me because of the stuff I write on here.
So today I want to discuss a bigger issue. Why do many Arabs seem far too emotional when they start talking about themselves or when others talk about them?
Look at me for example. When I am pissed off and feeling like crap, I take unknown visitors words to heart and want to scream from anger at such pointless comments. I keep telling my self that it is about time to end this crap and get on with my life. Then from day to night I change my mind instantly without questioning the reason why I did.
Arabs are the same. I think it is in our blood or something. We seem to be so emotionally driven by anything that we always forget the bigger picture. So far in my whole 29 years of life, I have NEVER met an Arab who was NOT far too emotional about the most mundane things. Why is that? Are we just raised this way?
Is it too much love from the family or the emotional control from our families that caused this?
Also guilt! We are raised to always feel guilty. We feel guilty about anything. So to push aside such an emotion when we do anything that is remotely unapproved by authority, we end up doing stuff in secrecy without anyone’s knowledge to erase this guilt from our heads.

However, all the previous are excuses of the bigger issue. The real reason for all this is what we see on TV and read in the news. The way we react to it and our helplessness to do anything about it. We see how Arabs are treated and the crap that is said about us. We see our families in Palestine, our neighbors in Iraq, and the way the western media controls the oil driven Arab country’s way of life. So we sit there and watch how our culture is falling, how our traditions are dying, and how the simplest means of life are controlled by others.
No wonder we are emotional.

You seem like a kind-hearted person… I believe that you mean well, but maybe the most important thing for you to do is not overwhelm yourself with the things in life that you cannot control. There is undoubtedly terrible things happening in the Middle-east- and their probably will be on-going trouble for the rest of our lives. I once sought to practice Islam, but now I feel as though I am best off living as an agnostic. I won’t say that your religious lifestyle is wrong for you (it wouldn’t be my place to say). But I will say this- I believe you should try to identify with the broader “human culture” – as opposed to the “arab culture,” so to speak. It may be good for you to realize that the world is not a polarizing place as it may appear to be. That was the best approach for me. As a 22-yr. old, with a Muslim father, and a American mother… I am benefited by diversity and cultural toleration, across the spectrum of my life. Maybe you should take a break from polarizing topics, and listening to heated emotional emails from our fellow arabs. Sometimes being laid-back and non-emotionally-involved is the best way to go.
maybe you should post some of the emails
(It will be like Eid for me if you post those emails =D )
@Charlie
I am not going to end my blog.. I still have you guys to entertain!!

…..You know you want to post those emails.. =D Then we can begin the character assassination =D
I think that the world needs different types of people to keep it interesting. Imagine how boring the world would be if we were all like robots!
Plus, I think you came to a good conclusion: sometimes when people are emotional, there are good reasons.
Theres a pro gramme on t.v. -right-now- about child drug addiction in Afghanistan. This planet needs divine intervention.
@Mais, our debate is irrelevant to this post, but with Mona’s permission let me answer you,
In 1970′s (I think till 1979) Iran was totally a westernized country…bars, casinos, prostitution, use and sale of liquors and drugs were rampant ,open sex was unlimited….everything was open and free like any European or western countries….
Ayatollah Khomeini came back (I think in 1979) to Iran from exile like (as you said) a divine intervention to Iran…
He turned Iran, a totally western life style country into one of the toughest religious country on earth….Prostitution almost eradicated. Casinos and bars closed. Liquor drinking banned, drugs sale and use is punishable to death in Iran under Islamic law…
Even though Iran a democratic country, is under tremendous pressure from so called capitalist and democratic forces.
Divine law can prevent all types of modern day crimes like,
1) Drug abuses 2) Pornography 3) Child abuses, 4) Murder in schools and colleges 5) Domestic violence 6) Organized (drug related) crimes etc…
BTW I am not a member of Shia sect.
I think you may have been onto something with the first part. The part you wrote off as “excuses”. With all due respect, the second part was a load of horse manure. The western media didn’t start demonizing Arabs until after 9/11 and even now the Western press is much kinder to Arabs than it was to Russians and/or communists for the 5 decades of the Cold War. As for Arab culture and traditions, the west has no control over that. If we did we’d have won the war on terror before it even started. I find it really confusing that you’d blame the west for problems in Arab society, Mona.
We didn’t start the fire.

Eh… time for a reality check! Iran has one of the highest rates of drug addiction in the world, and prostitution is commonplace. In fact, prostitution is legal with their convenient “temporary marriage” clause. I could get into the issue of sex slavery too which is a big problem in Iran but really this could just go on and on. You really should do a little research. This isn’t exactly secret information I’m imparting here. Even the regime admits how much of a problem it has with heroin coming in from Afghanistan and there are videos all over YouTube showing street prostitution in Tehran.
@Craig,
I didn’t say prostitution or any other crime was completely eradicated in Iran. When you are comparing Iran’s crime rates to any western or European countries, the incidents in Iran are far lower than of those modern countries.
I said strict law can contain crimes going beyond the limit or out of control as it is happening in western countries…
While going through my comment over here, your so called modern westerners has committed countless crimes such as alcoholic accidents, rapes, child abuses, murders etc. right now..
Statistics also show, criminals facing various punishments including executions in western jails are more than equal to any population of an Islamic country.
You are counting one or some you tube video incidents to make me believe that some of here and their minor or major crimes committed by Muslims are directly linked to ISLAM. And those heinous crimes committed to humanity and innocent lives in Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan, abughrair, ALSO in schools, colleges, public places, bars, casinos, beaches, streets and to children (child pornography etc..) So on by westerners are nothing to do with freedom of expressions, fundamental rights and Christianity and Judaism….?.
I think any strict law (if not Islamic law) is better than western laws to control crime rates going beyond the limit.

I say Iran has one of the highest rates of drig addiction in the world and that prostitution and sex slavery are rampant, and you admit they haven’t been “completely eradicated”
I said strict law can contain crimes going beyond the limit or out of control as it is happening in western countries…
Iran is run by a mafia, just like Russia. I for one am very glad that western countries don’t follow such “strict laws” that are imposed by gangsters. I’m just curious why you didn’t pick Saudi Arabia for your example? You could have actually backed up your claims with some verifiable stats in the case of KSA.
I have to agree with Mais, you need to look further afield than the Arab culture.
And Craig, western nations have a long, unpleasant history of meddling in the Middle East: Sykes-Picot, the Algerian War, Operation Ajax, etc, which isn’t to say that Arabs leaders haven’t a lot of explaining to do.
Magicwand, have you ever lived in the \Islamic Republic of Iran?\ Seriously, you remind me of those American communists who defended Stalinism from the safety of America. Most people who had to live there though hated it.
As far as westerners controlling the Muslim world, yeah to some extent. But let’s be honest here, the entire Islamic world was once Christian or some other non-Muslim culture/religion. Islam spread through colonization itself so you can’t act like Islam is innocent of the same thing.
