Our differences

Maybe the explanation is simple or too simplist: “as Westerners can drink outside or kiss, it’s their business. But we are Arabs & Muslims (appreciate the confusion between being Arab & Muslim), we have traditions and religion.” I don’t need to say the girls are the main victims as boys, on the ground they are males, can (or must) have dates with girls (preferably a westerner one) to prove their virility and they end by wanting to marry a virgin Arab girl. Here’s hypocrisy. I think some people especially from 1st & 2nd generation of immigrants came with traditions. I bet that if they come back, they’ll be more shocked how some Western behavours came to their original countries. A fact. For me, It’s not a sci-fi to see a couple doing French kiss outside but discreetly or more common to have a boy/girlfriend. This is how I see.

Maybe if there was more “lovey dovey” in Arab countries, there wouldn’t be so much killing. Most Muslim countries are so sexually repressed it’s no wonder everybody’s so pissed off….

I was talking to a non-Muslim friend and she believe Muslims and Arabs are the horniest and most sexually corrupted of all people. I think this statement is kind of bias and is a hasty generalisation. Hypocrisy and double standards are everywhere. The world lost it sense of morality and ethics years ago… which is sad, but the damage cannot be undone (apologies for my lack of optimism. Many people (of different races and ethnic groups) have tried every possible way to solve these problems. My recommendation is to let it go and just take everyday as it comes, just to be on the safe-side. Or for the hardcore people who want to change the world, I recommend they redefine and invent new universal meanings to the concepts of morality, democracy and ethics.

Mona, you live in the west. Why would you expect the “western media” to be anything other than western? And just because a movie or TV show portrays something doesn’t mean it is endorsing it. It is simply showing reality which is not always pretty or moral. And I don’t understand when you talk about the “core essence of our civilization.” If you are in the west, you are not in Arab civilization. Of course I’m presuming you are talking about Arabs in the west acting certain ways…..

If you want to know what makes people belong to the nihilistic proletariat, you could read “Life at the Bottom: The Worldview That Makes the Underclass” by mr. Dalrymple. Allthough this book is based on his experiences of working as a doctor in the English underclass, his observations are valid for all of western civ. It blew my mind and changed alot of my opinions when I read it.

Arabs wanna fit in so badly in the west becuase a lot are very self consious at the fact that we are labeled by ignorant people as all being terrorists. the sad thing is many arabs forget that if you arent comfortable in your own skin then whats the point? i mean i find it really disturbing for arabs with beautiful names like mohammed and ali and ahmad change it to mike, alex, and whatever non arab name exists. maybe we do need to progress with this ever changing society, but our problem is that when we progress we go all out and over due it, like for instance, i know a lot of arab muslims who drink fine thats between you an allah, but must you go over board and freaking become and alcoholic, also we all wanna have sex before marriage arabs as well as non arabs will go over board and screw as much people as they can, im talking about men and women. its sad becuase we dont know no balance. not allof us though becuase as it is in all cultures there are good apples and bad apples. thats just how i see it we try to hide who we are so we can fit in

I came late as usual…anyways, maybe what I’m talking about is off the subject….I really don’t know and don’t care….. the problem as I see it is that in being neutral in every aspect in our lives…..for so we reach to extent that we can’t judge any thing, for example you said that movies with some HOT scenes is consider art….but from other prospective another person can consider PORN as art as well, and no one can say NO to him because we must be NEUTRAL. Another example a guy who is having many girl friends and having affairs with them but he is good guy in his job and his daily life, also we can’t judge him. Even the girl who wearing HOT outfit also we can’t judge it because she may have pure heart. If we keep our self in this neutral way of life nothing will be consider right and nothing to be consider wrong…..because at the end of the day people have different viewpoints about the same case. I’m Palestinian and see that I have the right to get my land (All the land) back by force as it took from my fathers be force, but hold on and lets take a look at this case in neutral way….the history of Palestine from the dawn of the civilization was all wars, every tribe or nation hold this land by power and they consider it their land. but way we Palestinian say that we the only ones who have the right in this land…….Jews was their even before us…thats true….and now they consider this the land we took from them be power…and they have more force now and they want to get it back……….so in the or neutral way of judgment we must approve this and accept it till we be stronger than them and get it back or even get better land. At the end of the day they are human as we are and they suffer a lot and they deserve a small piece of land…….isn’t that also true.

Mona I really like your blog even that I don’t like most of your ideas about life but I respect you and your believes. But when we get this small tool of measurement that differentiate white from black…..justice from injustice……..good from bad, we finally can say that a movie is corrupting our kids and our youth………or comedy show is striking deep in our faith…….or even a girl outfit is ruin many guys thinking. If we lost that small tool of measurement I’m sure we will end up lower than animals.
