Do I or not?

By: Mona
.......................

A conversation in the car with my sister today went down like this:

My sister, ” I can’t wait for most of those grade 12 Arabs graduate and leave!”

I said, “why?”

She said, “They are so backwards and are fobs.”

I said, “Ahh, you mean they keep saying they hate living in Canada, that white people suck and they are the best, and they can never or don’t know how to accomodate this new style of life?”

My sister frantically said, “Yes! How did you know?”

I sighed and said, “Nothing will ever change.”

She said, “But you don’t even like Arabs!”

I said, “No no. I only don’t like the ones that will never change and think they still live in the desert somewhere. I like Arabs who are open minded and living life normally. Very rare, but at least I don’t hate anyone. I just don’t like to associate my self with them.”

She said, “I don’t either! I can’t wait till they leave. They are so mean to me and all they do is gossip!”

I said, “Yah well. Welcome to the club.”

I think being an Arab is cool, but hating where you live now cause you immigrated to here is not cool. Just learn to live life and make the best out of it, eh?

I agree some people just don’t get it. They move heavens and earth to emigrate to North America or Europe and when they get there they start complaining. Well society will not change, may be will be accommodating a little bit.
So if one can not stand it then go back home or wherever one is happier but please stop the whining and complaining

see my problem is even though you might be different from them. Someone from the outside will just group you (the normal… ‘i am NOTHING like them’ one) with THEM! That depresses me to the core.

The only issue with Canada and I…It’s weather and I wish it were more halal friendly. T-T

My cousins and even some college girls I know are like that. They’re like, “there’s nothing to do here.” And then they judge me saying I’m too American, so I don’t want to associate with people who make me feel bad about myself. And then I remember that I haven’t been wasting my time gossiping and complaining and have made it to the top of my class, just to show that Arabs are smart.
