I went today to get an optometrist appointment. My optometrist is retiring and it seems a new guy is starting in June. So I didn’t get an appointment till mid June. Here in the province of Ontario, to get an eye check up is not free anymore like in the old days. So, the optician who does the appointments told me the price, then looked at me and said, “How old are you?”

I looked a bit confused of why he was asking my age, and I said, “29.”

He said, “Ah really, people who are under 20 get the checkup at a cheaper price.”

I said, “And you thought I was like 19?”

He said, “Yah.. I think people would think you are.”

I said sarcastically, “Great.. thanks.”

He said, “Well the new doctor is young and pretty good looking guy! So look out!”

I smirked out of disbelief and said, “ok!”

The guy better be good looking. I was promised!

Blah Blah, Funny, Thank you, They said what?, Whatever!

Time: 4:40 pm.

Where: Driving out of the streets of downtown heading home.

What I heard on the radio: Lady called in saying, “Hello! The worst thing that ever happened to me was get married!” Radio MC said, “Wow.. ok! Haha.” Lady replied saying, “And the best thing that ever happened to me was a divorce!”

I laughed hysterically and my head jolted forward towards the steering wheel, and I almost died laughing while driving around 60km/h. My window was fully open! I then moved my head back up and I continued laughing all the way home. Best thing I heard in a long time!

In reality, it is not meant to be funny, but the way the lady said it and her excited voice in the beginning and then a sigh of relief in the end just made my day. I wish I could meet her and tell her, “So, how old are you? Younger than me eh?! Sucks to be you!”

Thank God I am not her age and divorced. That’s why my humble little internet friends, avoid marriage at all costs!

I feel young enough that I cannot remember half this crap, but old enough to have enjoyed Rainbow Brite, Smurfs, and cutting Barbie’s ugly fake blonde hair off.

Yah… all my barbies were bald. They were punk stylin’!

It’s that time of year again. Sorry I was late in notifying, again, but here goes it! Since so many people celebrate St. Patty’s day tomorrow and all, I declared March 16 to be Kiss Me I am Arab Day!! Come on, don’t be shy. Share the Arab love with everyone!!

Funny, Happy, Random Thoughts, Whatever!

My dad pointed out that we have arrived to Canada 13 years ago today. Add that to the 5 years I lived in USA, and you got a legal age! Yep, I have been living outside of the Arab world officially for 18 years. I am officially legally westernized.

Oh dear, I cannot believe it. 13 years in this country and I spent around 12 years of it complaining. You have to realize that I had a personal website live on the inter-web back then. That’s how much of a loser I was. I wrote poems (complaining about my life), shared favourite actors pictures (Brad Pitt, Antonio Banderas, Bruce Willis, etc), and the best thing of all, I was in still in highschool studying the process of photosynthesis and the detailed stages of meiosis.

Was I destined to be a programmer? Was I destined to complain all my life? I keep telling a lady at work that all I do is complain. I just love it, and I find fault in everything. I just love perfection and being super organized. I get a headache when there is chaos and disorganization.

Therefore, I should be thankful that a country accepted us as citizens. The funny thing that 13 years ago, when I arrived to this land, it was written in my immigration papers that my country of birth nationality was the following: Stateless. I was a gal without a country. Now, I got a second beautiful home, and a beautiful story and love of my Palestinian country and ancestors to share with the world.
