I can’t believe this year is almost over. It has been a long stressful year. I am just beyond tired and I can’t wait for a vacation.

A month ago I planned to have yesterday off because I was scheduled to work the Sunday before. It was peaceful, relaxing, I watched a movie, I ran some errands, and oh, I had to still wake up at 7 am because I had to get ready for an interview.

Wow, did I say interview? Back up a little bit and think about it. I had Friday planned a month ago! So past Monday, as in 6 days ago, I got a call asking me for an interview on Friday. I was like WTF! What are the odds of having an interview the day I had a day planned off already?

So, I went to an interview for a job that is pretty much the same stuff as I am doing already, but it is at a very big place. Anyways, I hate interviews, but I had to go because I felt like I needed to explore new options before I feel like I am glued to my current job forever. You know how people feel really comfortable in their current positions even though they may not like it very much, but don’t want to look for another and explore better options? Well, that is not me and I feel I am at an age where I need to find new things. I still have lots of energy and I need a change.

Well, I am trying you guys to come up with a business plan, but I need sponsors or a lot of people to back me up. I want to program something big, from scratch, because I feel that I need a back up plan in life.

If anyone is interested with coming up with a great online idea, then please email me to rebelliousarabgirl@gmail.com. I want to start something big. I feel that I am wasting my talents and it needs to be put in to good use.

Only serious people please!

Don’t start blaming now people. I did nothing but train this guy and help him out.

Unfortunately, the boss fired him today. IT WAS NOT MY FAULT! God did it! The Pakistani guy had serious issues with performing simple tasks. For example, taking screen shots and putting them in a pre-written manual. Is that such a hard task? Seriously? Come on. AND IT TOOK HIM 3 WEEKS TO DO! You are a technical person, but you cannot perform the simple task of doing that and doing it properly?

I am not being overly critical here, but I am being extremely critical! Sometimes I wonder how people get jobs. People like him lie their way to get a job, and memorize a few verses from the interview bible. However, you can only lie for so long.

I remember when I had my interview for this job almost a year ago. I am far too shy and nervous. When I am nervous, I cannot for the life of me make up stories. I can only say what I know and if I don’t know it, I say I DO NOT.

I don’t understand how good honest people are having hard time finding a job by saying, well, I do not know this, but I AM GOOD AT something else. Employers don’t like that, but they really hate liars.

So be warned, not only is lying a sin, but also thinking you can never get caught is just an illusion.

I really felt bad for this guy today. I kept wishing that the bosses should have gotten rid of him after work last Friday without any of us being there. Just me seeing someone forced to leave and pack up is beyond painful.

Oh well, wish him and everyone the best.

My dad pointed out that we have arrived to Canada 13 years ago today. Add that to the 5 years I lived in USA, and you got a legal age! Yep, I have been living outside of the Arab world officially for 18 years. I am officially legally westernized.

Oh dear, I cannot believe it. 13 years in this country and I spent around 12 years of it complaining. You have to realize that I had a personal website live on the inter-web back then. That’s how much of a loser I was. I wrote poems (complaining about my life), shared favourite actors pictures (Brad Pitt, Antonio Banderas, Bruce Willis, etc), and the best thing of all, I was in still in highschool studying the process of photosynthesis and the detailed stages of meiosis.

Was I destined to be a programmer? Was I destined to complain all my life? I keep telling a lady at work that all I do is complain. I just love it, and I find fault in everything. I just love perfection and being super organized. I get a headache when there is chaos and disorganization.

Therefore, I should be thankful that a country accepted us as citizens. The funny thing that 13 years ago, when I arrived to this land, it was written in my immigration papers that my country of birth nationality was the following: Stateless. I was a gal without a country. Now, I got a second beautiful home, and a beautiful story and love of my Palestinian country and ancestors to share with the world.

This is part three of the year end manifestation of the life of my blog.

My blog this year won so many awards, that I don’t have enough fingers and toes to count them! NOT!! (Didn’t I sound cheesy and dorky like the rest of the bloggers out there?) But yes, my blog won a lot of invisible mind boggling awards. I won people’s readerships. That’s the biggest award I can get as a blogger. I don’t care about best blog, or best writer, or best anything. Who cares? It’s like winning a virtual banner to advertise someone else’s bright idea that started the campaign.

Really, if the prize was money based, then people will be all over it! I would be so all over it!

Almost literally.

Where do I even begin? You see, it’s great being busy. It’s super great being super busy, but when you are expected and required to be there anytime and working all day long, and even nights and weekends, then you get tired. My social life, like I had one, is pretty much contained in one place, with about 15 people and random strangers coming by all the time.

It’s ok, I am not stressed or complaining. I am just stating why I have been sluggish in my writing or doing other things in my life. I can’t do much! Well, if I had time, I would be watching movies, shopping at the mall, and not sitting on the computer.

My company is small, but the niche is big, and we are the first ones doing software for that niche. Which is super great! I am slowly given the higher responsibilities of managing the software product since I am very active and interactive with everyone else; it being outside or inside the office. I even do software demonstration and explain things in plain old English. (Like teaching!)

The hardest thing I ever had to do in my life as a software designer is translating technical jargon to plain English. It’s hard, but I am slowly training my brain to do so, and it is very challenging.

Many of you have noticed that I am very critical and very harsh in judging other people’s websites, which I think 90% of the websites on the internet are hideous, but I am a damn picky person! I like things pretty! I like things that are “wow!” I like things user friendly! I like things to stand out from the rest!

See my mentality?

Who wants to marry a girl like me now who is almost literally stuck to something else in life?

Some people have or had a serious problem with me getting this new job. I have become distant or pretty much unreachable. I just work too much, and I am expected to do so. It’s fun, challenging, and I feel that I am needed. Having to throw all that away for other people, especially a guy or whatever, is really not going to make me happy. If you think I should learn to balance it out, then dudes and dudettes! Seriously! I don’t even have time to do my own laundry or cook edible dishes that other humans will enjoy. Does it look like I can balance anything out? I have focus problems.

Right now I am happy, but I don’t know what will happen to me or the way I think in 5 years. Because believe me, 5 years ago I didn’t think this way. 5 years ago I wanted to get married, settle down and be like everyone else. However, trying to be like everyone else is a big chore, and something you have to convince your self to do. I am not easily convinced anymore. I am very stubborn, I like to analyze all the possibilities, and then make a final decision. My decision right now to enjoy having a career and getting somewhere in life.

Oh, by the way, for those that repeatedly tell me that they can’t believe that I am a nerd, and don’t look like one at all, then beware! We are worse than those people who do look like nerds!

Guess what! Well, I never explained to my lovely readers the nature of what I do at work. Well, simple. I am the computer programmer. I make web applications. Very fancy dynamic websites that not only look good, but they function well!

I wonder how much my bosses will sell those custom modules for!

Anyways, I am working on implementing a community right now. The part I have been working on is the simplest part. Guess what I am implementing from scratch? Yep, you guessed it! I am creating a blog!

How did my hobby become my life?

I thought writing in a blog was fun, but try creating one from scratch. I should work for WordPress.org. Seriously, also, I do all that fancy quick interface stuff like Facebook dynamic visual craziness. I am slowly becoming a Javascript and Ajax guru. Maybe Yahoo or Google can hire me later in life!

I feel like I am still behind, and I need more time to mature as a computer programmer.

On a side note, I need to seriously get the new module or feature I have been eying installed and ready to go on my site. I couldn’t the past weekend because the stupid thing I downloaded wouldn’t work with my template. Argh!! I hate hate hate editing someone else’s awful code. It’s like my worst nightmare!
