I know I got many non-Arab readers, but are you a reader of my site just for fun and entertainment, or something else? For example, after knowing me, and realizing I am just a normal girl with a bit of conservative views about life, would you ever be friends with an Arab like me in real life?

I got many people wondering why Arabs don’t like being friends with non-Arabs. It’s like us Arabs are known to be in a totally different world by our selves, but are we doing it on purpose, or “others” don’t understand us, so they don’t want to be friends with us?

Therefore, would you accept us for who we are regardless of our conservative culture, religion, skin color, political problems, and fabricated stereotypes?

I always get people asking me if I am “Muslim” or a “practicing Muslim.” I reply saying, “What the hell is the difference?” It’s like asking me if I smoke or practice smoking. It’s a stupid question!

I don’t understand where this ideology came from. I think I heard it also for Christians. A Christian or practicing Christian. I mean come on! Don’t associate your self with a religion if you don’t follow it! Don’t start categorizing things and making a difference of practicing or non-practicing. The non-practicing one means you don’t follow it, period! And you should not even associate your self with any religion if that is the case! I just eliminated over half the people that say they are part of a religion right there!

So, those people that don’t practice the religion are really not part of that religion.

Stop using that idea people! It’s dumb, and defeats the whole purpose of being part of any religion!

Angry, Blah Blah, Religion, They said what?, Whatever!

I know many of you will not like this post and really hate me, but I am not writing to please. I am just writing what happened, and how it made me feel about the whole situation.

I am not against Muslim women that wear a head veil. That’s their choice. It’s a religious symbol that many wear. Who am I to say anything because I chose not to wear it? However, I met several Arab-Muslim girls that wore it for various non-religious reasons, which makes me wonder why?

Practice What you Preach

I knew a couple of Arab-Muslims sisters that used to wear it a few years back. The oldest sister had a serious problem with what I wore. You know the skanky Western clothes. The clothes that fit your body and cover it up like everyone else. The jeans and shirts that are your size. Yep, that type of skankiness that a lot of those type of girls hated. Clothes that fit!

One day, I just arrived at the library and said hi to a bunch of girls including that girl. Instead of saying hello back at me, she said, “Your shirt is too tight!”

I looked at her, I looked down at my shirt, and looked back up and didn’t say a word. I just sat down and ignored her. She wore extremely baggy clothes. She wore a shirt that fitted a grown man with a fat belly, black pants that were two sizes larger than her figure, and a head veil where anyone can see part of her hair line. I am not a person to judge. Anyone can wear whatever they want, but don’t tell me what I am wearing is inappropriate!

What’s funny, and it has to do more with my personality, I have never in my life went up to someone, even to my friends, and told them that what they wore was inappropriate. Who am I to judge them? Do I even care?

Anyways, this girl and her sisters had a serious problem when they first came to Canada. They had the pure characteristics of extreme FOBs or Boaters. First off, they judged me automatically because I don’t have an accent, that I must have been born here. Secondly, they hated being in Canada. They thought it was the land of the devil and everything is sinful! Lastly, they had a serious psychological problem with the way others perceived them. The most bazaar thing, and maybe because I don’t understand it since I don’t wear a head veil, is that people judged her and her sister for wearing one because people thought they were bald.

They were bald? That’s why they wore a head veil? Every place you go to in this city you will see some woman or girl wearing a head veil. Are they all bald? Why did they think that people thought they were bald? I will tell you why! Because they wanted to take it off and needed an excuse!

Anyways, after some time, they took off their head veil. Not only them, but the entire family! Even the mother! I was like wow.

So they mocked me for dressing normal, and I am sure they mocked me for not being as religious for not wearing a head veil and baggy clothes, but dressing like a skank. Yet, they removed a religious symbol such as that? I thought the reason that Muslim women wear it is to symbolize how religious and devoted they are to Islam. Isn’t taking it off after so many years makes them seem worse than me wearing jeans and a short sleeve shirt?

Hypocrisy? You think?

She Wore it Because She was Forced To

Is it me, or I have only met the most extreme type of anything people in my life? So, I knew this one girl who wore her head veil since she was ten years old. Yes, ten! You would think after wearing it for several years, the meaning of it would sink into your head. Did she think it was more of a tradition and her mom just said so?

What’s worse, while I knew her in University, she used to hang out with the girls who used to drink. Have you ever met a veiled girl who loves to drink, and you would always find her drunk at some friends house? I HAVE! So funny, because I never drank in my life and I don’t wear one. So I guess wearing one does not make you seem so innocent or religious at all!

Anyways, after she finished school and all, she tried looking for work but to no avail. After a year, she found a job in a European country and guess what she did? People told me this because I was not much in contact with her for a while. So, the moment she got on the plane from the International Airport in Toronto, she took the head veil off for good!

Hypocrisy? You think? You need to find a job at some far away country where no one knows how you look like so you can to take it off? However, drinking and acting like a total S____ was ok while wearing it?

She came back a year later, and I met up with her for lunch one snowy day. I already knew her story, even though I was not that much in touch with her. I had sushi with her that day. Yumm! Anyways, she had short hair to the shoulders with faded highlights, but she put her hair up like a 5 year old. Yep, with little colourful barrettes, and looked like a Japanese Animation character from Sailor Moon!

I was not sure if she wanted me to comment at all at the way she looked, or just the fact she took it off to look like a child. Like what are you supposed to say when you knew a person for so many years wearing it, then all of a sudden her evil 5 year old twin took over completely?

She Only Wore it to Get Married!

There was a trend in my University of wearing the veil. Well, it was only a trend to get married if you wore one. I am not kidden! I would see a very outgoing and sweet Arab girl, and then one day, I would see her in a little corner sitting alone with some religious Arab guy. Then a few days later, she would have a head veil on! A few weeks later, she was ENGAGED!

I was like wow! What a charmer! His philosophy was: I will only marry you when you look a certain way! So follow my rules or else!

You know what I call those guys? Extremely possessive and only care what others think of them as a pair!

Hypocricy? You think!

Or maybe I am wrong on this one, and they are very religious and convincing guys. Maybe I can get them to convince me why they make their wives walk behind them? I would like an answer to that!

I have been receiving such abrasive emails and comments lately. However, I was not sure what I can categorize them as. I don’t even want to reply to any because I feel they are a waste of human time to even bother with.

So, if I didn’t reply to your emails, I either skimmed through them and I forgot, or didn’t want to bother continuing an argument with someone I will 100% never talk to or see in my life.

I keep wondering why people think the way they think. Is it a cultural thing, or a religious thing? Both are confusing me, because I am not sure why people cannot make up their minds in trying to justify a point by choosing one or the other. Most of them resort to an answer that satisfies themselves anyways. So, why can’t they stop trying to justify things based on culture or religion, if they are really only satisfying their own beliefs?

The Never Ending Melodramatic Tunes

People ask me the same things over and over:

• Why do I say the things I say, am I Muslim? Muslims don’t say such things.
• Why do I have such conservative Islamic thoughts if I don’t wear the head veil? You are only Muslim and have such thoughts if you wear one.
• Why do I attack culture and I should be proud of it instead? You can only be Arab and use that name if you are proud of it.
• If I am Palestinian, then why don’t I dedicate my blog to talking about Palestine and the genocides instead of about me? This site is too popular and always first on Google and have to be dedicated to Palestine, and not me.
• Why do I have non-Arabs commenting on my site and me siding with them? Arabs only talk, listen, and agree to other Arab’s thoughts.
• People blame me for hate towards something that I don’t hate at all, and start mocking me physically, mentally, my entire family, and think they know me more than I know my self. Too much time on their hands, and they do it because they cannot stand people doing it to them. So they take the first approach at it, and find it amusing and fun. I wonder what will happen if they realize that I am evil with words and I have no mercy towards stupidity?

Moreover, due to my utter confusion with such mentality, and my automated alerts when I get new emails from this site to my phone, I end up asking people on mobile Twitter instead. I cannot or even have time to go on my blog or do anything during work hours.

This is what I asked today on Twitter:

I got people replying to me with various view points. Some said that it is worse to be a religious fanatic, and others said that both types of ideologies are the same. Anyways, it ended up being more of a rhetorical question than a pure questionable thought that is necessary for every day survival.

Mystical Thoughts

I will tell you the awful truth though that I have been hiding with secret words on my site, and just clarify some misconceptions to those pea-brained idiots with serious language and mental disorders. So, if you are confused or have too much free time on your hand to argue with me, then I got some answers alright! I have been actually hiding them in each blog post for almost the past four years.

Here goes nothing.

I say the things I say because I don’t give two shits. I am me. You are you. Get over it! If we were all meant to think the same way and have the same beliefs, then we would still be living in caves wondering who will go hunt our winter supply of food this year before we hibernate for over three months!

Oh, you see, people like me are the ones that go beyond what is written, beyond what is known by others, and use that brain that God gave us. For those that believe in God, or only some higher being that cannot be explained, or nothing at all, I DON’T CARE! That’s your problem, NOT MINE! Don’t force an idea on me! I can chose for my self! Do I force anything on you? Would you like me to? I can be very convincing you know, and I would probably be sought after by the Pope, some Imam, or some Rabbi, and questioned for knowing the hidden secrets of this life!

You see, human intelligence was given to us for a reason. If accepting things the way they are satisfies you, then so be it. It does NOT satisfy me at all. I like to think. I like to question things. I know my limits and when not to cross the red line. I say what I have to say because I know someone else is asking it, and they don’t have to feel secluded in their own thoughts anymore. They search Google or Bing or whatever, and come to my blog and feel a little itsy bitsy feeling of comfort. It’s funny when you meet others that share the same view point as you. You feel a little bit of hope and satisfaction. Right?

So, I question things because I can! Can you? Do you dare?

I used to know a lot of people in University, because I spent my life not talking to people growing up, and thought University had such cool smart open minded people that I had to be friends with. You guys know how that turned out to be. *sigh* 90% of my friends in University were Christian. Arab Christian to be exact. How and why that happened, I have no clue.

Anyways, I had an Iraqi Christian friend who was a bit stubborn, and lived in a bubble of her own beliefs. I used to argue a lot with her about religion. Even though she lived in an Arab country when she was young and should be very familiar with Arab Muslim lifestyle, her acceptance of Arab non-Christian customs being very similar to hers was something she refused to acknowledge.

Thanksgiving

It is Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada. So long weekend! YAY! Anyways, one time I had a very long argument with her about Thanksgiving. I blurted out a few years back on this holiday weekend that we bought the turkey and stuff for Thanksgiving. She said, “WHAT? You are NOT Christian!” I told her, “Since when is Thanksgiving a Christian holiday? Is it in the bible?” She said, “Doesn’t matter. Us Christians celebrate it here. Not Muslims.”

I was like wow.

I wanted to know exactly why she thought of it as a Christian holiday. So I asked her, “What is the purpose of Thanksgiving? Isn’t it to thank God for everything he gave us?” She said, “Yes, to our God!” I said, “Your God? Since when is OUR Muslim God any different then YOUR Christian God? IT’S THE SAME GOD!” She refused to believe that.

You can tell that friendship didn’t last too long with her putting that barrier of you are this and I am that! I hate that in any friendship!

Engagement Parties

Oh I hate going to engagement parties. I also hate going to wedding parties. Just celebrating someone else’s misfortune is really bad. I feel horrible! Not only that, you have to give them a GIFT for such an occasion! Sheesh! Anyways, us Muslims have engagement parties. It’s so old school for us, and almost everyone does it. Any type of party, as long as it is a party to celebrate the misfortune with other people. It has nothing to do with religion but traditions. You get engaged or married, you throw a party and waste money telling people,”Dude, someone is making out tonight!!”

Lamos!

You can tell I don’t like social gatherings being an introvert and all. But meh, customs are customs. Traditions are traditions. Waste of money and showing off on engagement and wedding parties is the ultimate manifestation in every culture.

Back to my main point. That same girl I knew had a serious problem with the idea that Muslims have engagement parties. We were discussing it one day, and she said, “Engagement parties is a Christian thing only.” I said, “Aha? So you are allowed to celebrate, and we can’t.” She said, “Muslims don’t celebrate anything. It is a sin for them.”

I was like okkkkkk!! Arguing anymore with her about that subject was gonna give me an ever lasting migraine.

I know that not many people are like her. Actually, I don’t believe there are other people like her with such stubborn one pointed views. In conclusion, I am not friends with her anymore because she has serious problems, but thinking of Thanksgiving this weekend reminded me of her. I can’t wait to devour that turkey! I don’t eat meat much, but I like the turkey that mom cooks in a kick ass way! Yummy! Gobble Gobble!
