July contest: Win a $50 Amazon Gift Card

July 3rd, 2009

The contest this month is a bit more challenging, but a fun little game that everyone can play. You must read the rules very carefully and follow them so you can win a $50.00 US Amazon Gift card.

How to play the game called Change my Thoughts:

I will start the game. I will provide a very general random thought (topic). What you will try to do is continue my thought, but try and change each other’s thoughts regarding the topic to your own, and convince others of why yours is better. The game is to keep breaking other’s thoughts and convince others of your own thoughts by starting a new similar topic so everyone is interested in it, and can comment on it. The most talked about and interesting detailed topic based on the general topic that I started, will win the $50.00 US dollar Amazon Gift card.

The game will be hard, and you cannot go completely off topic. For example, if the topic is about female power in the middle east, then you cannot change the topic to space travel. However, you can change the topic to female roles in politics, or something of that nature. Be creative and interesting, but don’t write an essay. You can keep commenting back and forth, and convince others why your opinion is better then theirs.

RulesĀ  & Other Information:

1. The contest will run on this blog till July 6th, 2009.

2. You must provide a valid email address when you comment.

3. You must be interactive and keep commenting. If you only comment once thinking you changed other’s opinions, then you will not be qualified. You have to comment on each other’s thoughts, and only while doing so, you can change the argument by providing a valid counter-thought.

4. You must keep track of your own topic, and must use convincing ideas that will interest everyone, especially the judge, which happens to be me!

5. You cannot go off topic at all, or ask me any questions regarding the rules, etc on this post. Email me your questions, or I will delete your comment. If you keep asking questions or going off topic, I will disqualify you.

6. I will jump into various topics, and I will try to convince others of my opinion as well. So watch out! :P

7. I will announce the winner on July 7th, 2009.

The Topic:

This generation of teenagers are very exposed and corrupted by the media and advertisments in various ways such as cable TV, internet, etc. Will they grow up to be very demanding and hard to satisfy if we don’t do anything about it now, or is there a way to limit the exposure, and teach them that life can be lived and enjoyed by simple means?

Guess where in Canada I am at now!

June 29th, 2009

I am traveling somewhere in Canada! I am such a sneaky little devil. I waited till I boarded the plane and ready to leave before I told you all. I wrote this post last night, but timed it to be published now. If you are following my Twitter account and Twitpic album, then you will get updated live with some messages and pictures that I am FAR AWAY FROM THIS CITY and I AM NOT LYING!

*Doing a Mona dance*

Yes, I caved in, and I’m my little sister’s only escort to the west where my brother lives. I was forced to go, and I said last Monday morning, “Fine, I will go. This could be FUN cause I am sick and tired of being here! I will book it now for next week, because the tickets are a bit cheaper!” Yes, the west of Canada! Far far far away! 2443.99 miles or 3933.22 km from London!

I am not going to be telling anyone when I will be back, but it will be a while! :P

Expect the unexpected and lots of pics! :D

A baby could have been born now

June 1st, 2009

[source]

Nine months have passed, and I feel like I have been slowly collecting dust. Seriously, I blame my self for all this, because I chose this path of waiting. But what am I waiting for? I ask my self that every single day. What the heck am I waiting for? And why? What can I really do with my life?

Recruiters have been calling me, but they don’t leave me a message, so I don’t answer them. I don’t care if they have called me over 10 times, I don’t want to waste my time to be a potential candidate to a job I didn’t apply for, and I only have half the skills anyways they are looking for.

I have not been applying for jobs for over a month. I don’t care anymore. I am careless Mona. Money? Who needs money? Money is to be earned if you have a life to look forward to and responsibilities. Like a house to take care of, kids to feed, vacations to plan, or a glamorous life to want to live.

Interviews I had over a month and a half ago, the HR have not called back yet. So polite of them and so considerate, so HR like. They ask you stupid questions that make no sense, but don’t do the simple job they were hired for of replying back.

So why am I complaining? Meh… I had nothing to talk about in the beginning of the month. I can’t believe it is June already. I wonder what this month will bring in thoughts and ideas to write about? I think in the end I have horrible luck. I got used to it. I have calculated everything, and no way my life can get any worse. So I can only look forward to something just a tad bit better in the future. No? I know, I am kidden my self. It will all go down hill from here unless I see a “sign” that tells me, “Mona. Wake up! Wake up! You are slowly losing your self and what you really wanted from life. Why did you forget it all? How did that happen and why?”

Maybe I will read this post again in a year and see if that “sign” ever came.

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a consipiracy theory!

April 28th, 2009

Last night, I had a bit of an argument on Twitter with some people over the Swine Flu virus that spread from Mexico. Some people saying, there is no such thing, and it is just a government conspiracy theory. Sort of a biological war. Then others say that it is a natural recurring order, and it would have happened eventually.

Then, you got people like me, that have too much faith in One God, and I kept repeatedly saying that it is God’s wrath on the people. Oh boy. I got the fanatics attacking me big time.

Why is it that when someone mentions God, then they start blaming you for the following:

1. You are too religious and you don’t believe in science at all.
2. You actually believe in higher power controlling us?
3. You actually telling us that things happen just like that with no valid scientific cause?

Blah blah!

Some people wanted me to discuss why I don’t believe in science. I then asked my self, what? Why do I have a Bachelors of Science? lol Why did I study science all my life? And yes, I was studying Biology before someone played with my mind and told me to study computers. I am more of a believer of science and studying science than anyone else. I love science. I believe that people who study science are only trying to explain everything that God has done. Humans are using:

1. Their brains to think of a new solution. Every day someone out there is discovering something or solving something.
2. Nature to find an explanation for everything.
3. History and natural order to come up with new patterns to explain a new or old scientific trend.

And so much more.

Us humans are explaining something that someone of a higher power is throwing at us. The higher power gave us the most valuable weapon on earth, our brains! God is challenging us to find an answer to everything. Where is the limit to our knowledge? Who knows. However, nothing happens for no reason. We didn’t exist or just happen to evolve from something just like that. Someone is controlling it, and keeps throwing challenges at us.

Yes, I am a Muslim. Yes, I have a bull headed religious view of things. Yes, I believe in the story of Adam and Eve. And yes, I don’t eat anything that comes from a pig, because like Judaism, it is forbidden for us as well. Why? Simple. Think about it. God told Adam and Eve to not eat from the forbidden fruit. They did anyways because the devil played with their minds, and they were sent down to earth.

Then, God told people to not eat anything from the pig, it is forbidden. People do or do not anyways. That’s just the way life is. What did God really tell us to do on this earth? Did he forbid everything? Did God continuously make our lives miserable by natural disorder? No. God throws a challenge at us all the time, but we have our weapons, ours brains, to find a solution. Hence, that’s when science, or the study of finding a solution to God’s challenges to us, is all about.

Think about it that way. If not, by all means, don’t start a religious debate with me. We will never come to a solution or to an agreement. I am viewing things in a logical religious/scientific view point. I like to tie everything together and not separate anything into categories. Everything is connected if we like it or not.

Do you think it is wrong?

April 26th, 2009

For those of you who speak more than one language fluently, have you ever been in a situation that you intentionally spoke your native language, or a language that others don’t know, with those who understand it, because you didn’t want certain people to understand you? Or you did it without noticing that you did? Or you did it just someone else can translate?

[source]

How many times have I done it? Maybe a million a half times.

Do I feel guilty about it? No. I was born into a world where I had the opportunity to speak more than one language. How I use it, when I use it is my problem. If people don’t like it, as we say in Arabic, “Fokhar yikaser ba3doo.” Or “Yinfil2o!” lol (HATE MAIL COMING!) :P

Do I talk about people in a different language so they won’t understand me? Hmm, maybe only 50% of the time. Sometimes I just have hard time expressing certain things in English, so I say it in Arabic.  So maybe someone who is better than me in Arabic can translate it to English. Kind of it being a circle of thoughts. I just know far too many colloquial Arabic saying or phrases. I am not really that good in translating back and forth between languages. I just suck at it. Sorry, but talking about people, like trashing them. Hmm, I can trash people better in English and sometimes to their face. Ahh.. man. I am showing my bad side. Haha.

Has anyone ever told you off for doing it? Yah, they got the 6th sense and they are pure evil. That’s why they dare tell me to stop it! How rude on their part! BLAH!

I wonder what will happen if I speak some ancient language, or a made up language. I feel like making up my own language! Why can’t I? Let people follow my new lingo!!
