Advice, Blah Blah, Culture, Random Thoughts, They said what?, Whatever!

When I read this, I actually laughed. It wasn’t written in a funny way, but it was funny that it was true and I just couldn’t help but laugh at our mentality.

I’m 25 years old, in most societies people my age are considered adults. but for some reason my parents and family treat me like a child. In my eyes i am a very successful independent adult. I’m educated, I have a very good job, the best friends i could ever wish for, and i support myself. but that’s as long as i’m away from my parents. the moment i step foot in the house, i’m treated like a kid, i have no say in anything. My parents say i’m lucky they let me work.. yes it’s that bad.

I broke it off with my fiancé a year ago, we were engaged for almost 3 years, and i can honestly say, they weren’t the best years of my life. we argued about a lot of things, mostly concerning the way i want to live my life. for example: the way i dress, where i go, who i work with, and who my friends are. In the end i felt like i was living someone else’s life! i had no control over my life anymore, and i decided that if this is what “marriage” is going to be like, then i don’t want it.

The problem is that ever since we broke up, my parent have decided that they’re going to treat me the same way, i get off work at 6, and i have to be home at 6:30, if i’m late they bombard me with calls, asking me where i am and what i’m doing. I can’t see my friends anymore, because i can’t go out after work, and if i go out with them on the weekend the calls start coming in after a couple of hours telling me to come home, and how I’ve been out all day. Of course i have to ask for permission to go out, and make my plans according to my fathers mood that day.

I’m going crazy! For God’s sake! I’m 25 years old, I can take care of myself! You know that there’s no way i could ever move out, unless i was getting married of course. I don’t know what to do anymore, I’ve had so many talks with them, asking them to lighten up a little bit. i asked them to give me a curfew, but i got this response: “What do you need a curfew for? you’re a girl! Nightfall is your curfew!” i need to have some kind of freedom! the only think keeping me from going crazy, is that i get to spend 9 hours a day away from this insane environment.

I’d love to chat with you sometime, or even email you, because there’s a lot more to say, and i want to keep this somewhat short so you’ll actually read it :p

Dear Arab girl,

My answer to you is the following: change that number 25 to 30 or whatever number you please and you would have included 99% of Arab females. Oh, and about 95% of Arab males who are not married and still living at home.

I don’t really know what to say. I am used to it. Back in the day I was a bit annoyed, but now I get it. I actually confronted my “father” who seems to be the over protective one and said, “I am not going to change. My job is to always look after my children no matter how old they are till the day I die. That’s just the way us Arabs think.”

Really, if you think about it, it is a nice gesture, and this is what makes us Arabs very close and family oriented. You would be surprised how western folks feel when they hear such things, because they don’t feel close to their families. Once they even remotely feel that they are living a life like us middle eastern people they love it. They love it!! Yet, most of us Arabs hate it because this is the way humans are. They don’t like what they have and always want the opposite.

There are advantages and disadvantages of this closed life style. I am a lazy bum, I like someone to cook for me, do my laundry, and treat me like a helpless child. It gives me excuses to go out and have fun with my life with no worries or commitments. Also, I feel that if I get married, my life will be closed anyways, unless I find the Rebellious Arab Guy, but so far no luck and Arab men are all raised the same way.

As for marriage, I don’t know if anyone wants to get married to me. I really feel it is my fault and no one likes me for who I am, especially Arab men. Anyways, it’s ok with me. I will accept this fact and live my life the way it is. It is sad I know.

A conversation in the car with my sister today went down like this:

My sister, ” I can’t wait for most of those grade 12 Arabs graduate and leave!”

I said, “why?”

She said, “They are so backwards and are fobs.”

I said, “Ahh, you mean they keep saying they hate living in Canada, that white people suck and they are the best, and they can never or don’t know how to accomodate this new style of life?”

My sister frantically said, “Yes! How did you know?”

I sighed and said, “Nothing will ever change.”

She said, “But you don’t even like Arabs!”

I said, “No no. I only don’t like the ones that will never change and think they still live in the desert somewhere. I like Arabs who are open minded and living life normally. Very rare, but at least I don’t hate anyone. I just don’t like to associate my self with them.”

She said, “I don’t either! I can’t wait till they leave. They are so mean to me and all they do is gossip!”

I said, “Yah well. Welcome to the club.”

I think being an Arab is cool, but hating where you live now cause you immigrated to here is not cool. Just learn to live life and make the best out of it, eh?

Dry, hot, and no more snow!

This year has been gloomy and nasty. My brain is so numb. Everyone is just nasty to talk to and snappy. Well, there are other reasons too. Some people at work have their titles removed from managerial position to plain old (they deserve it) positions. And now they are snappy and super anal! Not my fault or anyone’s fault. I don’t believe in seniority at all in work places. I believe in continuing education and training to keep going up the ladder at work. Not my problem you have been there the longest. That seniority rule disappeared now from companies. It is all about knowledge and application.

I swear I just need to get away from EVERYONE! I want to go back to being a good blogger. Complaining about Arabs! What’s up with Gaddafi? Still acting anal for the past 42 years? Every time I see him on TV I wonder how strong is that hasheesh he has been sniffing!

I know, I know. I get so many people jumping on my back and I don’t know if my body can handle that many people, and no you sickos, DON’T IMAGINE ANYTHING right now. Thank you. So, the past week has been amazing. I was sick, my throat was making me sing a different tune, my head was aching, and I kept exerting stuff out of my body that didn’t seem normal. Yah I know, gross intro.

Then it was Tuesday or Wednesday, but I didn’t blog normally. I haven’t for a while really. I guess people expect me to comment regarding the fire in the Middle East. My homeland. My people! Dude! It is not a fire. It is just normal average people like you and I that thought really hard and said, “shit.. our lives suck because our rulers make us feel like shit, we ain’t got no money, and our countries have enormous resources that would make us happy people.. but who the hell is taking all the money? Why the hell we are treated like dirt?” Yada yada.. All of you know that in order to expect any type of change is to just think different, even just a tiny bit and just say it. Just state your opinion! If the dumb ass in front of you doesn’t want to hear it and think you are a piece of shit, then ignore and just stand for what you believe in. That’s what I call rebellious. Be different and tell others why you think that way. However, being killed cause of it is disgusting and the world needs to stop being so political and say we can’t do anything cause it is not our problem. Believe me, it will become the whole world’s problem when we can’t afford to pay for gas or buy anything! See what happens when Arabs get pissed?

Anyways, I have been a victim of ridicule and hate when I started this blog because DEAR GOD my blog was so full of sin and people hated me for you know, saying stuff on the internet. No one has to agree, but as human beings all we really care about is our dignity and others to respect us for who we are and what we think.

Now to get back to life. My life. Well, not really, but more of a general thought I have been thinking about a lot the past 2 weeks. You see, I always wondered what makes us bitter people. Like bitter in a sense of not caring or being so cold and resentful of others. In my case, I feel that people like to take advantage of my care free personality and overly kind actions. I can’t help but be nice to others. Then, all of a sudden, people around me change, and treat me like crap or last on their list and that’s it. What did they expect me to do then? Give them a hug?

I may be the bitter and the very sour person, and if I can go back in time and think a little bit differently, I would still do the same thing. It’s our dignity and self respect that we care about. If actions lead us to think negatively and become bitter about certain things, so be it. Why does it really matter to anyone? Honestly, I want to grow old and still be the same person with bitter thoughts about a lot of things. I like it. It makes me think. If one day I ever feel regret, then I give permission to visitor A-Z to hunt me down and shoot me.

Being rebellious in thoughts is a wonderful thing. But being totally out of it because of NyQuil the past week is even better!
